tank, where all the junk will collect make no sense? Yeah, you need a filter, but put in where you can easily replace it and where the crud can be easily disposed of. What was Honda thinking? I always added one between the petcock and the carbs. Anyone know of an easy way to remove the intank filter?

Are you talking about the mesh bag that fits over the fuel inlet tube on the petcock? I'm not sure this qualifies as a filter. I can't remember details, but I think it is pretty easy to just remove.

I would not remove it.
Actually I've paid to replace them!

  • It lives!
I have to go with Dennis on this one.  Unless of course the mesh is blocked up and restricting fuel flow...

My mesh was ripped, so I removed all of it.  Better to have none than to have bits of filter getting into the fuel.

Regardless of what's in your tank, I'd still run inline fuel filters.  Cheap and easy ounce of prevention.

Where in the world do you put them?  I was planning on running them on my 550 but couldn't fit one let alone two in the line anywhere so all I have is the strainer in the petcock.

What was Ducati thinking.  On my 900SS the fuel filter and fuel pump is in the tank.  This winter the fuel filter and associated lines in the tank will be replaced.  I'm not looking forward to this.   :(

In-tank fuel pumps are very common in all brands of motorcycles,
as are in-tank filters. Some of the filters are inside the lines leading
into the fuel-injection throttle body, i.e. "inline filters."

I'll see if I can get a pic.  The one running to the right side of the bike is easy - it's the one for cylinders 1/2 that is tight.  There are inline filters that turn 90 degrees, but I haven't found any yet.  You need small filters.

These are what I have.

Here's a place with the 90 degree version too.  I'd get a couple of each.

TINTIN,

Thanks for the links. It is a tight fit under the tank.
