hey guys, been a long while since ive posted.  im building a SECOND cb750 )

this one is hardtailed..5" stretch.  im not going to divulge any other specs on the bike as im still throwing alot of ideas around.  youll get the idea as the pictures come.

I am glad to have stumbled apon this build. Lookin good man.  I am looking into gettin a hardtail frame right now. Who made yours and did you have any problems with installation or customer service ?

my dad is an electrical engineer for black & decker..so we have allllot of dewalt stuff

the goal is to be finished by summer.  i tore my other bike apart to use the frame/wheels/front end for mockup.  im redoing BOTH of them at one time so hopefully i get some more warm weather here in PA so i can get moving!

i guess i can tell..its a TIGman stg3 hardtail.  he was great to deal with.  it shipped almost a full month after he said it would and towards the end he didnt return a few of my emails but i wasnt in a hurry to get it and i understand he is probably busy as heck..quality and fitment is amazing though.

thanks, it is a nice angle!  the backbone isnt exactly straight with the rear tubes due to the longer stretch, but its pretty close!  the stock honda tank hides the angle very well but i wasnt sure if i was going to use that tank or a peanut tank so i wanted the frame to look good with both!  after mocking up the honda tank, it looks like its made to fit on this hardtail'd frame!

Very nice! Really like the frame & overall look If you don't mind me asking, what did the frame run you? Does he have a website?
BTW, did you ever look at the TC Bros stuff on ebay? IIRC they are like $250 built & $125 raw.

     heres my take on things...  im a bit of a perfectionist.  i dont like doing stuff halfassed (not saying the tcbros stuff is bad or anything..), but if im going to build a custom bike, im going to build it how i want it to look as cost permits. 
     that being said, the lines of the tc bros hardtail kit arent what i was looking for.  ive got their forward controls, and they are a quality part but the tigman kit fit the bill for me.  the tigman hardtail ran me around $500 shipped.  ive got a tig so welding everything up wasnt an issue.  i picked up a titled frame for 125 and the rest is history.  to me, i dont have a hardtail kit now, i have a custom frame..ya know?  the only part you use from the stock frame is the front engine mounts/cradle and neck.  with the tcbros stuff, you bolt half the hardtail on and weld the other half and you end up with a bike that doesnt look like a true classic hardtail (which is what i want)

might be a few weeks before i get anything else done as the weather here has been a bit crazy.  id have to dig a path a few hundred yards across the yard to even get to the garage and its 2ft deep ice/snow the whole way!

as for the front end, its lowered about 4".  currently, im using cb550 fork tubes and dampers along with shortened 750 springs.  when the bike goes back together, ill be using shortened 750 tubes and modified 750 dampers with shortened 750 springs.

can't say I am a big fan of the ape hangers, but I am liking how the rest of the bike is turning out. Keep it up.

as of right now, im planning to use apes that are about 4" shorter than the ones in the picture.  of course, after the exhaust is installed and everything else starts taking shape, i may change my mind again.

I have 13" apes on my HOG....I love them!

yeah I could see it looking good with shorter apes. I also think sweeping handlebars would look killer too but thats just me.

ill probably end up with a 12" or 14" ape...the pictures are taken with 17" bars!!

I need to figure out what to do with the gauges..i wanted to do an eletronic unit that contained speedo and tach but since im going to run batteryless/kickstart only, id have to reset all of the settings and programming everytime the bike turns off.  doh!

hmm ill have to keep that in mind.  i originally wanted to use one of the acewell electronic gauges because they have a pickup for a tach signal directly from the coil and they also have a hall sensor that mounts near a sprocket or rotor with a magnet that allows some pretty fine tuning as far as speedo accuracy (you can change wheel sizes and adjust the speedo to match).  thatd allow me to clean stuff up a bit..

yeah that setup sounds like the same type of hook ups as the veypor too. Magnetic speedo and a sensor for the coil. Also it came with a engine temp sensor for either water or air cooled motors, ambient air. My buddy just put one on his hurricane and I was impressed with how much stuff it came with. The only down side is it looks very modern not very vintage. The only way I would use it on an old bike was if I found someplace to blend it in with the bike so no one sees it when the bike is off.
