He had a guy from Ireland intrested but it fell through.

Not sure about taking tobacco into the US, thought it was only difficult to bring it into this country with the high taxes.

Hope you're well Mick.

I don't know about that particular brand there bud, but you can get almost any kind of tobacco you could think of. Most smoke shop owners are pretty chill, espically if you go to a decent looking one and not some shady one with bars in the windows and what have you. If you go in there and tell them what you want they'll either have it or have something close I am sure..

Dude when I smoked I smoked this cheap stuff called "Top" and it was not that damn bad either. That or the American Spirit company makes cheap pouch tobacco and it's actually chemical free.

Did some snooping Sam, and it seems that 'Golden Virginia' is manufactured by Imperial Tobacco of the UK.

I found this on thier website explaining their entry in to the US market:

http://www.imperial-tobacco.com/index.asp?page=408

...doesn't say whether they export your brand though  :(

Sam. ;)

By way of England I understand.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_Virginia

(Just like matt's pointed out, I type hecka slow ;) :) )

But then what do I know. Economic forces have led me back to rolling my own again and I'm going with a Danish blend with a bit of Dutch thrown in for flavor ;) ;) ;D ;D

Don't know about gram prices but rolling tobacco runs around $4- $5 for the 1.4 ounce bags at my tobacconist(Bali-shag, American Spirit,Galloisse, etc...). Bugler and Top are about 1/2 that. Everythings a lot cheaper when bought by the tin.

Caveman's got it, don't expect to find your "stuff" at the local WhizzieMart but searching out a local tobacconist might get ya that golden weed :)

I have enough to keep me going for the 4 weeks I'm over but thought if it's cheaper over there, may as well get it over there.

Hey Scondon, if you noticed in the discussion, it may be market by a UK company but it's probably
grown here in Virginia or NC. Be interesting to find out the source.  I'd be curious to know if any
tobacco is actually grown in the UK.

It says on the pack that it is a blend of Virginian and other tobecco.

Made in the UK, I doubt it is grown over here.

I quit about 5 years ago, but I used to buy cans of american spirit and then use an injector to fill filter tubes. I saved about 60% that way.

Sam, I am sure you will find a brand in the heart of Tobacco country you will find equal to what you have in the UK. You can get blends. I am sure Rock can find a fine leaf in Virginia.

I smuggled tobacco into the UK when I went. I also smuggled UK tobacco back to the states. No you can't get Amber Leaf, Golden Virginia, etc. in the US. I didn't recognize a single brand ('cept for Marlboro and Drum) while I was over there.

Promise me you'll stay away from Top and Gambler ;) Pick up some American Spirit and you won't be disappointed. Bugler is alright, but gets sickening pretty quick.

As for prices, you'll be happy to know you will be paying about half the price (edit: maybe even less depending). We don't go by grams here, we still go by the ounce system ;). You'll be getting 3/4 ounce pouches on average. American Spirit comes in 1.15 ounce pouches IIRC.

Sam. ;)

Just to give you an idea I had about 42 grams of tobacco (1.5 ounces) when I went to the UK. This was in June and July. I didn't have any problem with it. It was on my person and I had no questions asked, wasn't told to check in with customs for it etc. Same thing on the way back, I had a large (what is that again? 25 grams?) pouch of Amber Leaf on my person and nothing was said for it.

You wouldn't have any problems with that much.
In 4 weeks I'll get through about 6 or 7 2oz pouches.
Think I'll just buy whatever when I get there.

No one smokes Bali Shag?  At $5.50 a pouch, its the best antidote to $8-$9 packs of smokes here in CHI.

Of course, it also keeps the bugs and snakes off your skin, like regular tobacco does.

I don't want to bum you guys out but here are my latest statistics, taken from the Mozilla Firefox programe I run.

Years spent smoking cigarettes: 38, give or take.

Quit date 30th of November 2006, the eve of my 53rd birthday.

Cigarettes not smoked since then 10,171.

Money saved $5085 NZD.

Last milestone, 16,200 hours without a gasper, which is what they are, literally.

I'm bloody PROUD that I quit. I'm walking between 60 and 100 kilometers a week up on the tracks behind the city I live in.The tracks are 50% uphill to varying degrees and I feel the burn in my legs and lungs when I really get going. I like the feeling!

I will NEVER smoke again!!!!!!

I just quit last year after eleven years. I love tobacco. If I made over eighty grand a year I would smoke again. The smoke never affected my preformance.  I was a pack and a half a day guy. I just did a lot of running and biking. That fights that nasty winded feeling you get if you smoke and try to walk up stairs.

Any way I agree that for the most part it is a smart idea to stop. Though all my friends don't smoke, oh well. :D

Sam things have probably changed from when I lived in the States but I couldn't get Canadian "Export" tobacco from Imperial in California but what I could get was HO & WD Wills which I think was a virginia tobacco that was imported from the UK it wasn't the same as "export" but it wasn't sweet like american tobacco, so once a month I'd hop on the bike and head down to the financial district in LA to the high end tobacconists and pick up 3 cans of roll your owns, can't remember about papers.
