Small wiring problem
« on: September 18, 2005, 07:00:52 PM »
I Have to replace my ignition switch on my 1978 CB750K8...I got it off but when I was srewing around with the left side cover the red wire touched one of the brown wires for about 30 seconds...I heard kind of a pop and smelled a hot electronics type of smell...which is never good... anyway...the fuses are not blown

the switch has one red wire, one black two brown wires and one brown w/ white strip

I read the wiring diagram that is in the Honda shop manual and it says that the 2 brown wires go to the tail/stop light...but I cant read wireing diagrams very well at all...and they go somewhere else but I cant tell where

Could some one please tell me what I may have burned up

Also in reading the wiring diagram it says that I should have a head light fuse with Br/R wires...which I have and a main fuse with red wires...which I have

but it says that I should have a tail light fuse with Br wires to which I have a brown wire with a blue strip on one end of the fuse and a brown wire with a white strip on the other end??? The harness does not look like anyone played with it...it looks original...what could this be...

Well, the red is the hot lead from the battery, the black is the power circuit to the rest of the bike and the brown and brown/white wires complete the tail light circuit. You gave something in the tail light circuit a hefty jolt. From what I can tell, the brown wire goes straight to the tail light and when you put the switch in the "Park" position, those two get connected anyway, so the red wire probably hit the brown/white stripe wire. This wire goes back to the instrument lights and up to the light switch in the control pod on the handlebars, where it gets juice from the black wire. (also powering the headlight hi/lo beam switch). Hmmm... I might have a better diagram. Let me look. If I figure it out, I'll post something. Sorry for the rambling, hope it was of at least a tiny bit of help...

These wonderful little birds are great flyers, delicious eating, excellent for training your hunting dog, and just fun to shoot,or stuff and keep around the house.  Bobwhites can be put with other types of Quail and have very large penis's.  Quail are very popular with the babes.

If it is the ignition switch, you can change just the contact block on it to retain the same keying for all your locks. They are available on Ebay for 8.95 I believe. Good luck  The brackets were just what I needed  Thanks

I believe that I will have to take my bike to the shop...I do not have the knowledge to fix my electrical problem...wires are getting hot and I am blowing fuses...before I burn out anything expencive on my pile I will take it to a qualified human being...which will not be the local yocal motorcycle dude but the gentleman who works on the multimillion dollar sea going vessles....

And believe it or not he charges less an hour to do the work
