Dynatek Highly Recommended - Short Story
« on: October 02, 2008, 05:31:50 PM »
Guys,

I have to tell the rest of the story. It has a great ending and is a testiment to the folks at Dynatek.

About a month ago, I started having some problems with dead cylinders on my hotrodded 836. I changed plugs, then checked all of the wiring, then spark energy to find I had weak spark on the 1/4 coil. I ordered a new set of 2.2 ohm coils and a new set of Dyna suppressor wires from Dynoman immediately, but it did not fix the problem. After a short conversation with the techs at Dynatek, I pulled everything off and sent them the 2nd coil and the Dyna 2000 controller.

Dyna tested the first coil I sent them  - they replaced it in 3 days. Yesterday they tested the 2nd coil I sent with the Dyna 2000 about 7 days ago after talking to the tech - today they called and said they were replacing everything - new coils and a brand new Dyna 2000 control unit are being sent to me 3 days UPS delivery absolutely FREE - not even freight. No big deal? Well this entire system was purchased well of 1 year ago. My receipts are dated April 2007, but these folks stepped up and said these units should give me many years of trouble-free service - thank you for being a loyal customer and come back when you need additional systems for other bikes. They did confirm the unit was bad. It had been spiked with high voltage. They have built-in circuitry to prevent damage when it spikes, but that safegard is among the failed systems. The rest died when the high voltage got through.

I am stoked and very impressed. Darn good folks.

And they lived happily ever after.
The End

Isn't it cool when companies actually back their product and try to fix the problem.

I'm another satisfied customer.

They sent me an adapter to run my electronic tach off the Dyna-S.  It's listed at $25 on their web site and I would have paid that, but the guy on the phone enjoyed talking bikes and said "don't worry about it".

I don't usually put stickers on bikes, but they earned some free advertising.

I had this conversation with TwoTired a while back as he feels Dyna overcharges for the S unit and anything involving tech help etc is something we have paid for when we purchased the product. While I agree with him nothing is free I also believe that many companies (especially those in the electronic business) cut you free after purchase.
A big point I never mentioned during that exchange is the fact that Dynatek supports the motorcycle industry via sponsorship of dragracers etc. Those funds have to come from somewhere and I have no problem giving what may be an extra 15.00 or 20.00 for a product knowing it will go back to the community either through sponsorship or great customer service. It's true....everything costs money.
They have treated me very well over the past 25 years and at least I have I've gotten something more than just a piece of equipment....more than I can say for many other electrical device manufactures.

i got my dyna s from cyclepartsguy on ebay.
he stood behind his sale too when i said "i don't want to install it for a while"... probably knowing what we're learning in this thread.

i've since installed it on the cafe 350f cuz i couldn't wait for the racebike to wakeup... not only is their service great but the product is too!

Guys, the brand new Dyna and Coil came today - absolutely free. They even gave me the updated software version that allows full PC programming and set-up (if you want to use it). The unit comes with the same programs built-in as the original 2000, but has the PC link feature at no cost!

Great folks them are!!!!

I am a die-hard Dyna fan.

Thats great news Gordon. That is a pretty expensive unit(I believe I paid $375 for my Dyna 2000 in 03' from Dennis Kirk). Its good to know that they will back up their product. I haven't had any probs with mine (going to go find some wood to knock!!!!). So....wadda you figure caused your voltage spike??

We have been a Dyna distributor for about 25 years. One of the best suppliers we have. The sales manager, Scott V used to race a 7.0 pro mod nitrous dragbike.  They are bike people.

Fred, I don't know what caused the spikes. I've checked the outputs at idle and at 3,000 rpm - both are normal and never went over 14.73 volts. I suspect a few of those 11,000 rpm shifts could do crazy things to the system. Buzz also told me that the suppression wires must have good contacts - top and bottom. If those are gapped or pulled away from the plug - the coils could be damaged. I have invested in some rather expensive, long-reach sparkplug wire puller pliers just for the on/off plug wires of #2 and #3. Those 2 cylinders are my biggest complaint about the whole bike. Getting the wires off has meant that I had to pull on the wire and the cover - as best one can. These pliers were hard to find, but they allow you to reach way down into the hole and grab the cover where it's on the plug. I'm hoping the voltage protection unit went bad and that's all behind me. Dyna designed these to take care of themselves and they replaced mine - I should be good to go for a long time. You're right about cost, now they are over $400 and those coils are about $70 each. Dyna did good.

I just had #3 wire come loose on my coil a few weeks ago.It didn't come all the way off though so it was like a PITA intermittent. I'm runnin' the accel coils.I took the gas tank off and started looking for loose connections and #3 just fell off the coil.I tightened the connector to make it "clip" onto the coil like it should. All has been well since.
