Looking for CB350F decal measurements. *pic added*
« on: September 23, 2008, 12:20:58 PM »
Can someone with a OEM set up tank take some measurements of the decals for me? Like how far from the top of the tank, the width of the top and bottom decal line, the thickness of each line and the gap in between? Any of the measurements will help. Hopefully I can pick up some decal stripes and bend my own so I can get custom colors. BTW if someone has a template file for this that would be ideal(long shot but maybe).

Ok I think I might have figured out the width of the stripes. The outer big one is 1/4" the inner thinner one is 1/8th" and the gap in between is 1/4". Can anyone confirm or correct?

These should help.

In both cases the tape 0" mark is at the tank seam.

SD;
I got a complete decal kit which included the matching dual tank stripes (and every other decal on the bike) from a company in Ontario Canada called Mach9 Technologies Inc. Very very good quality and perfect match with the colours on the side covers. I have a phone number but no web link. Interested?

Thank you guys, much help.

@ 2manybikes: That helps a lot, thanks!  8)

@Jim: If you still have this around I'd be very interested depending on the color. The only reason I'm trying to strip it myself is A: So I can do double black striping and B: It's cheaper(doesn't really matter actually but it would be pretty awesome striping your own tank)

@Hoodellyhoo: Thanks for the link those are the ones I've looked at quite a few times before I even contemplated giving them a shout and seeing if they could print one in black (I think they make them in house)

Quick Update: About an hour ago I picked up some 1/4" and 1/8" black striping. I've been busy trying to get the hardest lines first (the back inner bend and the outer bend). So far it looks AMAZING, but I'm not satisfied and haven't even left any tape on and said "thats perfect". Main problems are, the tape with stretch and be a tad thinner in places, and it's hard to match the same lines as the OEM design while having a perfectly bent line.

Any tips on how to do the striping would be great or any more measurements would be ace. BTW Jim hows your bike coming along?

*Not related* Anyone else having this problem where when you go to post it says
"Your session timed out while posting. Please try to re-submit your message." ? To not have that come up I have to press preview post then post.

What do you guys think, finish them off (oem design) or leave them how they are? btw ignore the crap pic, taken in a dark garage with flash on and it has way to much contrast and saturation.

Well I've painted a few stripes in my time.....So heres some tips.

The brand of tape used greatly affects outcome. I recommend 3m stripe tape.

It doesn't deform under moderate curves

It has a good edge adhesion. This means no blead thru under the stripe line.

I recommend an Airbrush for small gauge striping. Less pressure better application and cleaner stripes.
