Cracked top triple tree on CB360
« on: October 10, 2008, 09:28:11 AM »
Well during the unconstruction of my CB360 I discovered that my triple was cracked on the left side. Lookin on ebay I didn't see one and I have seen these craked often before. Could this be welded or am I looking at something that will continue crack?

It's a weak point with the CB360, always has been. Not sure why, but it's a pretty common dilema.
Keep watching EBay, one will show up.
Sadly, I don't have a spare myself - I know I need to look for one, but keep spacing it out.

I've welded (TIG) the top triple trees on a couple SOHC's.

After clean up and a bit of polish its indistinguishable from a new one.'

I have one thats been welded on a 750....fo far its been fine for 5 years now.

THe quality of the repair will depend alot on the welder skill

Any idea if any Honda 33mm triple top will work for the 360?

I attach pic of my "repair " of cb360 top triple tree--not recommended, of course.
I obviously need a new one too, if you find two !

I guess Honda used a different material to cast the early CB360 top yoke as I have seen a bunch of them break through over tightening.
The bikes I bought had broken tops (but that was because the guy I bought them off 'helped' me strip them for transportation and re-tightened with air tools)
I'm using CB350 twin top yoke but I'm pretty sure the CB350f, CB400f and CJ250/360 are all the same.(diameter and width)
Just get something from earlier or later than 1974~75 as they seems to be the problem years
