1 cylinder not registering during sync
« on: October 10, 2008, 06:08:19 PM »
I sync'ed my carbs about 2 months ago and things were running fine.  I removed my carbs yesterday to clean the slow jets and connected my Motion Pro sync gauge.  I noticed that #2 cylinder didn't register at all.  It was almost as if there was no vacuum.  The header for #2 was hot though.  The bike seems to run ok, but I am getting a slow return to idle.

Any ideas?

You've got 4 vacuum tubes, try another on #2.  Check for a plugged manifold tap.

Cheers,

I swapped the vacuum tube and #2 still doesn't register.  I stuck a very small screwdriver in the manifold hole and didn't find any obstructions. ???  All of the other cylinders register fine.  I am stumped.

If there's nothing wrong with the gauge, then it could be the intake valve is not opening.  But if the pipe is warm, that doesn't quite jive.
Go metric, every inch of the way!

are you 100% sure no air leaks?
Sounds like a plugged vacuum port though.
Have you checked the condition of that intake lobe lately?(hate to even mention that since if it's worn badly... well that would be a bad day at best)
