Annoyed with ebay seller...just ranting
« on: October 10, 2008, 10:40:21 AM »
So I found an ebay seller that has some Derbi GPR50R front end parts i'd like to get...don't really need but interested to see if they'll work on my Honda MB project elsewhere in the forum lol...anyways. He has the forks and upper and lower triple. Asking quite a bit more than they are really worth, and has had them for sale for a loooong time and keeps on putting them up again for the same amount. So I asked if he'd be willing to make the deal a little better if I take the forks, upper triple, and lower triple all together even though they are in seperate Buy It Now auctions. So the response I got was: "they are listed at buy it now, that's the cost, i can TRY to package them all together to MAYBE save you on shipping. Thank You." obviously he didn't capitalize those words, I did that for effect  :P

Now i'm not complaining too much because I see where he is coming from, he has a price he wants bla bla bla...but no one has bought these in over 3 months, he keeps on relisting them at the SAME price. Granted if I REALLY needed them i'd bite the bullet and over pay which i'm guessing is what he is counting on, but still...come on?! MAYBE he can give me a shipping discount?! Give me a break. Lol, rant over.

It's more the principle than anything...even if he had said yeah i'll take 10 bucks off and combine shipping...I probably would have jumped on them...but the response I got was just so, blah. Because of that response i'd rather not ever buy anything from him. Even if the price was decent.

precisely, savvy business skills also include being nice and making the customer feel like they are getting a deal even if they really aren't.  ;) ;D

besides... deals are deals... relatively speaking.

cut me a deal, you said... he gave you a lame excuse and said he'd try, maybe.  NO DEAL.

I once told a guy in exact detail why I was asking what I was asking and why I thought it was worth it.  The guy actually gave me $50 more than I was asking because he liked my attitude!

Anyhoo, I think a key here is that you feel he's asking more than you think it's worth.  Walk away.

I'm with Tramp.  In fact, I was recently one of those sellers, though on Craigslist.

I had some items listed and kept getting responses offering me less than I wanted.  I emailed a curt, polite 'no thanks' each time.  One guy even gave me a hard time over relisting when the items weren't going at my price.  I wasn't in any hurry.  They didn't cost me money sitting in the garage.  In the end I sold the stuff for what I was asking or within just a few dollars (one guy came to my house a few dollars shy on the cash).  It just took about four months, but I really didn't care.

That reminds me, I still have two items that need relisting.... :D
