Topic: Anybody Seen THe New Triumph Thunderbird In The New Issue Of Cycle World?

       I kinda like the look, but sure seems like they are blending in the "Harley look" with the rear fender and gas tank area. Like to hear what others think.

MOST people WOULD think that is a harley.

i'm not big into cruisers... looks like all the others to me.  just a bit different only seeing one cylinder in the profile.

Yeah, I don't really know who wants this thing, but I'm sure somebody does.  I suppose there are performance benefits to a massive parallel twin vs. a massive v-twin that I'm not thinking of right now.

Other than the engine, I'd need a pretty close look to be able to tell that it's not a metric cruiser of one kind or another.  It's not really going to make you stand out in the crowd.  Though, the headlight is a little different than most.

But hey, so long as Triumph keeps making the Bonneville, they can do as they please.  I won't judge.

      Well, they've got the big V-Twins. Now they're working on big Vertical Twins, what's next? Maybe REALLY big inline Fours or maybe we'll start to see a variety of sized Six cylinder bikes. Who knows. I just wish they could be more original designs for the overall look. I think it was the Triumph America that I kinda liked the look of until I saw the rear portion of the bike because it looked Harleyish also. Then there is this new Thunderbird! It has even More of the Harley look. Maybe, just maybe one of these days a designer will actually come up with a look that will knock our socks off! Ah, but then the price will probably blow a hole in our billfold too!

      I am talking about the speedometer setup on the gastank and the rear fender along with the leaning shocks. Also the way the forks are built (kinda widespaced).  Those areas remind me of what I would call the "Harley look"

you're right, that tank looks NOTHING like a harley, at all
neither do the tank mounted instruments
or the bullet headlight
or just the overall posture of the bike.

Lol now find a pic of a GZ250...which is a small clone of the harley BUT with the same style motor! So they will look even more similar heh

          Exactly right. Triumph has done a complete turn around and, far as I know, is doing pretty good.

apart from the wheels, engine, pipes, side pannels, frame and a few other bits then yea it does resemble a harley.

      Ichi, I'm sure no one will hold anything against you about not liking the H-Ds, but you need to know that I've never had one and don't care for them either. I think those who DO like them and have them, more power to ya and that's cool. Not my choice though. The only one I ever had any idea that I might like to get, would have been a Sportster and then, I rode one. Now, I have no doubt, I didn't like the way it handled and didn't feel comfortable with it. While I have to say that I would like to have an old Indian some day, I realize that it still wouldn't be my "daily driver", a Honda (or at least a Jap bike) would be the choice for that.

Speaking of Triumphs...I saw the new scrambler the other day. I looked up the specs on it and it left me bored. Not only is it overweight (over 450 pounds!), but the power seems somewhat lacking.

It kinda turned me off the whole Triumph "retro" and cruiser lineup if this is the direction they want to take their engineering.
