Hello. I've been lurking for a while and just now am finding the time to post up a pic. I just bought this '78 550k for $400. It wasn't running when I got it, but it runs pretty good now. I ultra-sonic cleaned the jets and taped up my crumbling airbox rubbers to get it to this point. It does leak some oil out the head cover, but that seems pretty normal. Anyway, I've got a new seat on its way and I've yanked off that hideous box/backrest. I really need to find a grab bar or bumper for it so I can get my rear turn signals mounted. Any tips would be much appreciated. I'll also update this thread when I get done detailing the bike and the new seat is mounted. Here's how it came:


Help me out with a source for the grab bar and intake rubbers if you can, please.

hello, im going to part out-------1977 cb 550. i have complete air box intake system. let me know what you need. sorry no grab rail. to bad you got a seat. i just had mine redone, then found out motor had no compression!!!! ---------bob in colorado

Well, I've got the OEM exhaust on its way and have the bike running good and pretty cleaned up. I'm just missing the grab bar for now.

That bike cleaned up nice,,,yes the beer box had to go...I'm riding a 78 550k that I just finished .....I ended up getting my grab bar on E-bay,it took me 2 times to get me a good one,watch for bad welds,at the signal mounting point

Bob do you have a price in mind for that seat and is it a stepped seat...(like Honda_nut's).Thanks Tom

I guess these things are more addictive than drugs. I just bought this on Saturday:





I already snagged a nice 4 into 1 exhaust system on greedbay and have a neighbor lined up to recover the seat. It was stored for years with the petcock open, so I'm sure there are some nice stalagmites in the carbs. The electronics aren't working and it really needs a good douching with sos pads, degreaser and a toothbrush. Maybe after that, a little wax and it might look a little more deserving  of attention.

Anyway, My 550 is about done and I'm waiting for a chance to detail it and get some pics with the sweet factory exhaust on it.
