Look what Hush found!

OK so I was put onto this CB350f by Troppo, amazingly he is in Australia and I am in New Zealand but the bike turns out to be less than 2 miles from my home!
The guy selling the bike says he has a few others he is selling too so come and have a look. ;D ;D ;D
I'm in the market for a wee bike for my partner Jaffa (height wise a Hobbit) so it can't be too big or powerful but needs to keep up with my CB650 (when it finally hits the road).
Short story long, the guy shows me into his shed, more like a huge barn and starts showing me his collection.
CB350f, CB500, CB750 (K2?) CB400f, 750 waterbus, 500 Titan,etc etc........the guy has way too many toys.
Even a very rare Suzuki A50 racer, this wee bike was a legend 36 years ago when I had an AC50, it held the quarter mile record then and probably still now for production 50cc road bikes.
Question, as I have never seen a CB400f before, what are the good/bad points on them?
The CB350f I originally went to look at seemed just too small and light but the 400 was in very good condition and seemed just right.
Strange bike with chromed 4 into one which I am told is what they came out with? ???
Anyhow here's some piccies to wet your appetite, just about all the bikes are for sale eventually.

400 is an upgraded 350 with 6 gears and is the usual reliable Honda 4, only known common problem is the cam chain tenioner lock bolt and tensioner mechanism. lots of posts on here about that

Still thinking about it, depends on what he wants to charge me, he wanted $1600 for the 350 so not sure what he wants for the 400.
Just been scanning David Silver and they practically have every part new for one of these bikes! ;D

That is the way the 400s came with the 4 to 1 exhaust.  As a hobbit  myself, I would recommend the 400 as stock seat height is lower than the 350 (I have one of each), not to mention the greater fun with the 6 speed, a bit more power and a better suspension.

If you look at a parts fiche you will see a horseshoe shaped part of the cam chain "tensioner" mechanism and the chain can and will eat into this if allowed to run loose---unfortunately its also the one unavailable part now BUT i believe there is a member on here that can re-furb them

Cheers guys, that kinda helps me make up my mind.
Now I gotta see how many gold bars the guy wants for that 400?
David Silver has brand new seats for these things? amazing as the one bad part of the 400 is the seat and pan are coozed. ;D

Found another cb400f 77 in Auckland, $1800 ONO, these wee bikes seem to keep their values even after 31 years!

Just for those who have ridden both, how much faster is the 400 compared to the 350?

I looked at the first pic and thought......it is strange, the exhaust is comming out the wrong side for cripes sakes........then saw SUZUKI on the tank  ::)

Great scores Hush! price seems a little high, unless they don't need much work and are low mileage.

Tensioner issue has been covered, and beyond that they're great (350F or 400F).........except for head leaks.

I figured they wouldn't be a whole lot different. A bit more oomph would be nice however.

BTW, a strategically placed ball of paper towel in the fins=no more head leak :)

Well the number I've seen Qouted for the 350 is 32 hp. Quarter times in the 15 1/2 second range....

I've seen 37 - 42 hp Qouted for the 400F and Quarter times in the 14 1/2 second range....

Feels alot faster to my butt too....
