CB750 Exhaust Mounts
« on: September 20, 2005, 09:50:21 am »
Gents,

A few weeks ago I got a '72 CB750 fitted with some drag pipes.  I'm looking to put the original pipes back on, but I'm not sure how they get attached to each other, and to the frame.  From some pictures I've seen, it looks like the rear footpegs go in between the two on each side.  It also looks like the rubber mounts on each exhaust somehow attach to each other.  Please help.

The pipes are held up by the same bolts that holds the passenger footpegs to the frame.  If you have the passenger pegs on, you probably have shorter bolts and will need to get longer ones to mount the stock pipes.  They are joined together at the rear by a small rubber ring for each pair.

Thanks for the reply.  About those rubber rings.  Do they just sit on top of each other, or are there some connecting parts for each pair?

I figured I might get more of a response from "Gents" rather than "A-holes" or something a little less polite. ;)

The rubber rings are held with clamps. These tie the two mufflers together. There are ports in the mufflers these attach to. They help to reduce the backpressure in the system by sending the exhaust through both muffler chambers, instead of one.
