CB400 Valve timing
« on: October 16, 2008, 09:57:25 AM »
I am reassembling the engine of my 400F and have the following question.According to the manual I have aligned the spark advancer with the matching mark.
Next I installed the cam chain to the cam sprocket so that the matching lines are aligned with the upper surface of the cylinder head. But then it says: 'Install the cam sprocket to the camshaft with the two bolts'.
Now I would say that this can be done with the cam shaft in two positions (180 degrees different). So my question is: what is the required position of the cam shaft?

I don't believe it matters.  The chain and the cam are set and fixed for timing as you described, the gear just drives it all.

With 1 and 4 at TDC, position cam with cam lobes facing down on cyl #4.
