I just got off the phone with my parents. Apparently last evening my dad was a victim of road rage. I am not sure of the exact details, but this is what I was told. My parents were driving home from my sister's home and somehow managed to piss off a guy who then tailed my them all the way to their driveway. The guy got out of his car and got in my dad's face. After a few choice words, the guy punched my dad in the face and split open his left eye brow. Now my dad is no spring chicken (63), but he is an ex-Marine and I guess his training kicked in. My dad tackled the guy and with a few punches of his own, had the guy knocked out cold. My mom, who was in the car, was already on the cell with 911 when they were arguing. As the guy was coming around, the police showed up. They sorted out the details and cuffed the guy. My dad had to go to the station to file an incident report. I asked my dad what he did to knock the guy out. He told me that after he tackled the guy he grabbed the guy's right ear, so he couldn't turn away from the straight lefts that followed (dad is a south paw). My dad said that he went right for the jaw because he knew it would knock him out cold. Damn! dad got three stitches and a swollen hand (x-rays were negative for my dad, but the guy has a broken lower jaw).

The guy blew a .20 on the breathalizer, so he also got charged with DUI.

Don't mess with my dad.

I probably know the answer, but is your Dad okay? I'm thinking stitches? And while you said the other guy was out cold, is that all? Again, stitches? I'm thinking that any altercation with a Marine, regardless of the age of said Marine, would incur a few injuries, even if intoxicated.

I appluad your Dad and Semper Fi to him. If any of you run into a situation where you are being tailed thiis way, call 911 and get it on record that you are being harrassed and followed by another driver, AND you fear bodily harm. This way, if you do happen to smack some a hole, you have the grounds for self defense since alll 911 calls are recorded. Some localities may not handle the way these cops did.

But seriously...good on him for doing that. Give him a big "Thanks" from me for putting the world just a touch closer to equilibrium. Too many of these asswipes get away with crap like that and that is exactly why they continue to do it. There are no consequences anymore....Hey...that should be Sparty's dad's nickname. I think that is a great nickname. I plan on entering my dad in the UFC

I am having a sign made up for the holidays that I want to give to him that reads "Forget the Dog, Beware of Dad's Straight Left". And a bumper sticker that reads, "As me what happened to the last guy who was riding my tail"

Same here, Unfortunately, once one comes to this conclusion and hesitates to act because of the consequences, one becomes a simpering pasty PC prick afraid of one's own shadows. I can't help the white part, and the liberal label is my choice.

My dad, like Art's, also spent most of his life in the military, and there are advantages to having a retired military ID. I'm glad Art's dad wasn't charged, although I wonder if he might be exposed to civil litigation.

i can't believe that anybody involved in that kind of situation feels good about it afterwards, and condoning or admiring what occurred can only be voiced by those vicariously living the incident. That said, I'm really glad Art's dad is OK.

Read this again. I was a Cop at one time. You are reporting a crime in progress, there is a timeline. You have the belief you are in danger, it becomes a matter of public record. Now you are confronted. Now grab the Pr1ck by the ear and clean his clock.

You need a credible defense, now you have one.

Yes, that guy may try to slap a civil suit on my dad, but his case has too many holes to win. The court will most likely reject it from the start based upon the fact that in a fit of road rage he followed my parents onto their property and punched my old man in the head.
