Can a 750F swinarm bolt be replaced by a .....
« on: October 18, 2008, 07:22:20 PM »
I want to put some rearsets on my 750f. i was thinking of just welding some brackets to mount a set from feebay and then eliminating the bulky aluminium pieces all together. So if i remove the current brackets the bolts for the swing arm (#1 in pics) will be to long as well as the other one, motor mount? (#2 in pics). My question is will bolts from a 750k fit this distance perfectly? Anybody know? or have done this.

these things are so Fugly.

I guess i could do that. I don't have a tap and die set but i will probably will end up needing one again. Thanks fuzzy for pointing out the obvious.

The K bolts off a 77/78 K should fit. If the frame is not wider on those years then all K bolts would fit.

I picked up some F parts, one of them fuglys is in good shape.. I will take a look to see if they maybe can be milled out to make them lighter & better looking.

I would imagine the swingarm bolt would work fine. The lower engine mounting bolt on the K model also holds the footpegs on and will probably need to be rethreaded or have a spacer added. It is probably shorter than the F model though.

Okay - Not that I mean to hijack this thread here, but I'm actually going the other way with my rearset brackets. I have a K and want to use the Swingarm bolt to mount my rearset bracket with. I think we need to trade measurements (if not swing arm bolts  ;D ) to see if each other's idea are going to work.

1978 CB750K (rough measurements):
Swing Arm bolt: 12 7/16" (316mm)

Lower engine mount bolt: 13 11/16" (347mm)

What do you have?  ;)

1978 CB750F (really rough measurements):
Swing Arm bolt: 14 3/4" )
Lower engine mount bolt: 17"

it was kinda hard to take these measurements with the parts on the bike but this gets you in the ballpark.

the fuglys can be made to look better!!

Look at the back of them, leave the thicker web portion, then remove the middle.. drill, hacksaw, & file.. or mill if you have one..

Did you include the bolt head on your measurements? I did not for mine.

No biggie. The heads are probably the same size. I'll measure and post when I get home.

Engine mount bolt and Swingarm bolt heads are 5/16" and 3/8", respectively.
