rpm range
« on: October 21, 2008, 04:51:59 PM »
Hey guys
Looks like the end of the season is near. Just wanted to find out where everyone likes to keep their rpm range. I like above 4k bike feels responsive. What would be considered lugging it? Like 4th gear and 3k rpms?   71 750

I ride in the upper RPMs always even in 5th gear.  Anything below 4 grand is lugging it on my machine.  Because of my CR carbs, my idle is set higher than stock otherwise I get a burble on take off.  My power is made from 5000 to 10000, so I ride in there and it is loads of fun.  3rd gear at 6000 is just about right for cruising near the speed limit (but over it).  It is also immediately responsive and kicks you back if you decide to give it more go.  At 8000 it is beginning to scream with my 2 inch comp baffle (which will attract attention), but it runs like a Hot Rod should.  Above that and it can be a handful as the front wheel wants to go up.

I would say under 4k rpm would be lugging it for me.
