New rear shocks mounting problem
« on: November 25, 2008, 04:06:06 PM »
I purchased the shocks from PARTSNMORE.

First the shocks came with several different rubber bushings with different size inlet holes. I picked the largest inner diameter, as it's already hard enough to try and get it on there. The rubber bushings that goes into the eyelet at the top of the shock isn't wanting to seat properly on to the factory 'peg' that is mounted to the frame. I noticed it after sitting down behind the bike and seeing one of the shocks turning slightly inward and the bottom.  Just needs more persuasion to seat flush next to the frame I suppose.

And now my chain guard is in the way. Does anyone 'scoot' around without a chain guard? Does it fling up a lot of debris with it off?? The coiled springs are nudged up against it, and I don't know if it will in fact cause it to work improperly. Really doesn't seem appropriate to have a non-movable fixed structure along side and moveable shock/spring.

I bet pics would help in the matter~ Just thought I'd try and ask first

Cafe Racing is mainly a matter of taste. It is an atavistic mentality, a peculiar mix of low style, high speed, pure dumbness, and overweening commitment to the Cafe Life and all its dangerous pleasures. I am a Cafe Racer myself, on some days - and it is one of my finest addictions. ~H. S. Thompson~

Some like this 1980 cb 750F chain guard have a cutout for the shock profile, my 92 Nighthawk has a cutout too, maybe a few minutes with a grinder or dremmel tool will solve your problem.  I wouldn't recommend running on the street without a chainguard, unless you don't maintain your chain.... besides some states require one.
