Help a noob - Complete Cleaning and Detailing guide?
« on: October 24, 2008, 11:14:06 AM »
Hello - I pick up my '76 CB550K in about 2 hours (OMFG WOO HOO!!!), take it straight to the shop. In a few days I'll bring it home and want to start cleaning it up, removing/treating surface rust from those finned exhaust header nut things (can you tell I'm new?), treating the rubber hoses/pieces, etc. Is there a comprehensive guide to all of this? Possibly on this forum, like the "Manuals" reference post?

Is there just a book out there that goes over all of this?

OR - if I get enough random responses I'll combine all the info into one big post for future newbies, but I have to imagine I'm not the first one who needs this info.

Thanks for any responses, even snarky ones (I use those to judge how stupid my request is!)

~RR

Why is your bike going to the shop?

Steering head bearings and leak coming from oil pump (suspected). I need this bike to be in decent commuting shape before I start learning how to work on it. You can see my first thread here:

I guess I am not sure of some of the terminology to search for. I searched "cleaning" and got nuttin. I searched "detailing" and got nuttin. I searched "clean" and got a buzillion.

OOPS - just noticed that the SEARCH function is forum-dependent. Searching form the top page I get a lot of info.

THANKS!
