When you guys resleeve do you attempt to retain the oring on the bottom of the cylinder? If not what are the consequences, is it truely necessary?

I've run with no orings and had no problems at all Jerry

Me too. 50k miles on an 888cc kit, no orings.

No rings at the bottom. #We will not be doing 970cc, only 1000.  The head gasket will be composition. I couldn't get the multi layer. That was one of the hold ups, I tried.

So,we're looking at $1208.00 total?
Will the top of the block be resurfaced if needed?
Does the combustion chamber of the head need to be machined for the dome of the pistons,if there is one?
Top of the sleeves need to be machined for copper o-rings for sealing?


Just remembering what I had to do for some 73mm MTC pistons years ago.

Did you pop for the full kit ot just pistons for the new block?

I know shipping to BC is a concern however I recently saw where someone needed to transport a bike from N Washington to SoCal. You could get paid to visit Jay and import them yourself.  ;)

Make the call 1-661-256-7309  YOUR TURN. Mike and I have placed our orders. Gotta have AT LEAST 2 more for the first batch or we'll be highly pissed!! Half now and half at shipping. Don't have to pay all up front.

On a seperate note, after getting off the phone with Pat at APE, I think you will find this way cool and very interesting. Pat tells me that Jay is the only maestro that touches our parts with his machines. He does not let anyone else do the work. These are his babies. I'm impressed. Jay, you ARE the man. Thanks!

Will there be a problem using a stock block?
What other parts and mods will be needed for this build?

Seriously thinking about placing a order,but a 1055 I built back in '89 was plagued with problems.
Oil leaks between head and cylinder,ignition and charging problems.Pulled the engine and put a
stock 750 in its place and still riding it,but have the urge to build another bike.

May have to get rid of some other pistons that I've accquired to fund this project.

Jay says he limited the kit to 1000 in order to prevent breaking through the stock block when he bores for new sleeves. The kit is complete except for the machine work to install. The only other parts I wouldn't hesitate to install are stronger rods and cylinder studs. There are multiple (4 at least) sources for high performance rods nowadays ranging from $600 to ~ $1250. The heavy duty cylinder stud kit is $80 from Jay also.

I have those two items covered.   Falicon rods,APE studs.
RC and couple of Tsubaki cam chains,some adjustable cam sprockets,APE valve spring kits.
Suppose a head will have to be done up also.Mike??
Are you and Mike going to be installing the main brg stud kit,also?

Maybe Frank (aka 754) would want these new Arias 970 piston and rings I have,since he has a cylinder and sleeves?

I am actually working on 2 engines and will use the HD main bearing studs in both. Must be purchased from Dynoman even though APE is the source. I just boxed up a NOS Henry Abe 900 kit to ship to APE for cylinder work. I still need to ship Mike my head for that engine. Kibblewhite 34mm Black Diamond 5mm stems complete kit. APE crank with Carrillo H beams. Using the lighter Carrillos & Kibblewhite in the 900. That will go in my F. I also have some leftover NOS pistons, 73.75mm, that I had intended on using but will go with Jay's 1000 instead. I'm using Jay's heavier Crower rods in this. Mike had already upgraded my 33.5mm Kibblewhite head for this engine. This engine will eventually go into a soft tail chop build or, at the least, a kick ass spare.

I'll have one helluva garage sale one of these days when I'm done playing  ;)

Knew I liked you that instant we met on that San Francisco street corner.  ;) True story too. That doesn't sound right but I've never admitted to being right anyway.
 
Wish I had a spare block for you. My spare (for the 900) is packaged up to drop off in the am and the non spare (for the 1000) is still on the bike. Plenty of time. Jay still has to complete the order then have them made. My estimate is 2 to 3 months. Should give me time to save up some more cash. Why don't you wait on the block until we hear that the kits are done then just have someone ship it directly to APE. I'm sure Pat and Jay can accomodate that.
