I would really prefer 970cc, so that you can just do a light bore to use 1000cc for a second  round on the sleeves, but maybe that is just me..

I can see where a few people want 2 sets, so you dont have to wait if you blow it up. Myself I would prefer a set of 970 and 1000. I cant send a deposit till middle of next month.

My math may be wrong here.

If you get the 1000cc and damage it, you then will have to buy a new set of sleeves and fit to pistons, and that would be 300 or + for sleeves and fitting, plus another set of pistons.(plus ship out yoiur barrell unless sleeves are identical)

If you had the 970cc, you would fit  new pistons 1000cc, and pay around 80  for boring. (most can get that done locally)

If that is not correct, please explain.

Also in roadracing and Bonneville, if you could get any oversize 1000cc pistons, will you still be able to run in 1000cc or under classes.

I like the 970cc with a chance of overbore to 1000cc a lot better.

Bump...very interested in these pistons. 754 has a good point, are these sleeves thick enough for a rebore? And does 70mm bore =970cc and 71mm = 1000cc? is this correct?

Hi Jay, mate i was wondering, if i was to order some 970 pistons would i still be able to have the 1000 width sleeves with thicker walls to suit the 970 pistons, the reason i ask is so that i have room for a re bore if i need it?

Thanks...Mick

There will be only one sleeve and will take both sizes. I will get back on this right after new years.

Jay,

Count me in for either the 970 or the 1000. Personally I think the 970 would be better. Like many have said it gives you someplace to go if needed. I will be sending my crank to you guys tomorrow. Sounds like the turn around time is 6 weeks. OMG!!  :o How am I going to wait 6 weeks? Just do great job Jay. I am counting on you man! ;D.

I think it will be snowing down under in 6 weeks Terry. ;) Funny ...it's snowing where I live right now but it was 100F at the Australian Tennis Open yesterday (in Melbourne I believe).

Nah, it'll still be hot until about April or May here in Melbourne Mike,  (113 outside as I type this @ 8.20pm) then we'll get 3 or 4 months of fall/winter with temps as low as 50, then it'll creep back to this by Christmas. It does snow up in the "High country", but it aint Aspen, and most of the "snow" is man made.

Where Mick lives (Brisbane) they don't have a winter, I believe it was banned many years ago by Joh Bjelke Petersen, I lived there for a couple of years in the late 1980's and rode the wheels off my old bevel drive Ducati 900SS, God was certainly in a good mood when he made Queensland, ha ha! ;D

Snow's ass! This is getting to the point where it's too exciting to think about snow but a sled with a BIG sohc sounds interesting. Looks like a build thread coming soon.

Let's now think about cams for our BIG ASS engines. What're we going to do for cams? Megacycle is not totally out of the picture but rebuilds aren't readily available off the shelf and 125-75 seems to be one of the best options for the smaller engines. Web Cams is still buying billets. Big Jay lists 2 cams. Dynoman has cams. These are probably Web Cams maybe?

I'm DEFINITELY not a cam expert. These 4 big ass holes in our cylinders will need mucho air to provide the proper bang factor. The way I figure there are 2 non aspirated ways to accomplish this. Longer duration cam with sufficient lift and bigger valves. I'm going the bigger valve route and suspect most of us will do the same. I'm thinking that will decrease the duration requirements that stock valves would necessitate in a large engine. I know we don't want bigger valves kissing each other too so we have to worry about overlap of timing between intake and exhausts. So what are the thoughts? I know for a fact that Mike wants to top the 100hp mark so the rest of us will only get stage 3 heads from him while he makes his stage 4 plus he'll probably pull a hotter cam outta you know where  ;D  ;) So that leaves the rest of us as also rans but we gotta deal with it! Whatta're we gonna do boys?

Thanks for bringing this up Jerry... ;). Being mainly for street use i want this engine to be a torque monster, you know, wheel spin under hard acceleration in the lower gears, power stands, that kinda grunt,{and i thought i had grown up.... ;D} So any suggestions would be most welcomed.

I go with a cam that has good lift and shorter duration for torque. The sooner you close the valves the better your compression which will increase torque. The 125-65 is a very good cam. If you want even more power the 125-75. It is also a very good cam and is what I run in my 915.
