What's the best price anyone has found on HM300 's ?
« on: October 22, 2008, 10:43:18 PM »
There seems to be considerable difference dealer to dealer in the prices listed in their parts fiches; anywhere from $305-$218 each. Anyone found anything lower? I'm ready to pull the trigger on two of them tomorrow and want to get the best price possible. Thanks.

My experience with buying parts for vintage Japanese bikes is:

If it's available, buy it. You might have to wait 12 or 18 months before that part comes around again. So you might save $30 or $150 on the part by "waiting and seeing"  but is it worth the 18 month wait and the uncertainty that the last one has been listed for sale?

I bought a set for $895, on an employee pricing sale.
Because Honda doesn't see it fit to package an exhaust pipe in more than a plastic sleeve, inside a tightly fitted cardboard box, I wound up having to send back 3 of the #3 pipes back, because they arrived with dents in them. For the price that I paid for those HM300's, I want to put my own dents in 'em. For that reason, I'd recommend ordering them through a place that has a decent return policy....  ;)

Precisely why I bought them from the dealer. After finding the lowest price online, then figuring in shipping, etc. It was cheaper to buy from the dealer, plus if there is any damage, it's their problem to sort out. They had me open every pipe up and inspect it thoroughly before they let me leave the store (and they stayed around past closing time to let me inspect them!)

My dealer will match the lowest price and not charge shipping.  That is what I did, plus I bring them some venison, sausage, cheese and popcorn throughout the year for being so good to me.  They went out of their way to help me find some vintage KO parts.  So the deal is, strike up a good relationship with your dealer if at all possible.

I have herd that the new HM 300 pipes from Honda have some kind of warning on them. Can someone tell me if this is true?

Not that I have noticed and I bought mine in May of this year. At the time, my Dealer told me that there were currently 35 sets left in the warehouse.

There is an exhaust emissions warning stamped into the back side of each muffler

Now I am going to have to go back and look at mine. Initially I didn't see anything and I even did a test fit with all 4 pipes. Really wouldn't surprise me though. As long as the stamp is in the back and out of sight, not like on the BMW mufflers they sell for the /6 and /7 bikes!

Mine had an emissions statement stamped on the back side. It's not noticeable unless you're looking though the wheel, at the back side of the pipes....

Yeah, it's an advisory about it being illegal to install them on a bike made after 1983.  ???
