right side exhaust header not heating up
« on: October 25, 2008, 09:54:51 AM »
the right side header on my '77 cb750 k is not heating up. last week all four were the same temp but just a few minutes ago
i started her up and the first three were hot but i could grab the fourth with my bare hand and nothing. what does that mean? is the piston shot in that cylinder? there is no smoke and no oil or gas leaking and no excessive noise from the engine or exhaust. i have had to open the choke all the way for a little while to get it to idle at first but its fine as it closes and stays at a healthy idle after about 3 minutes. but as for the header not heating up can anyone give me some tips?
thanks

Easy there 547, you have 3 more that still work...anyway, I suspect a fouled plug on that cylinder if you haven't had any problems before.  Points would mean 1 and 4 would have gaiven up and so would coils.  It may also be a lead has gotten corroded or dislodged inside the plug boot.  Both problems range from free to $2.99 Mr Honda would not have built a machine that let you down.   At least not too far down.  :)

thanks. sorry i got so excited. this is my second bike and the first one that i have ever had to put so much work into.
my '72 cb450t hasn't given me so much trouble believe it or not. i think that i heard somewhere that headers not getting hot meant that that piston was shot. glad that that is not the case. thanks for the tip because frankly i don't think i am ready for that yet. still a little green on that front.
thanks again
