Brake line question
« on: October 25, 2008, 08:14:50 PM »
One of my recent projects on my 77 750K is sorting out the front brake. It's dragging quite a bit and I sure the fluid could use changing and the caliper piston cleaned. I noticed the second part of brake line that's connected to the caliper doesnt reach very well. But I have lots of slack on the upper brake line. I think this only proves that my fork tubes arent the stock height since they look longer in between the triple tree and fork ends.

So I guess my question is, does my brake line look right? I know it looks short and not routed the right way, but do you think it's because of possible longer fork tubes? I have a set of 78 tubes on the way so I'll find out for sure.

Your hard line is bent way up out of position.  It was originally mounted back behind the fork tube and in a more or less horizontal position, The PO probably bent it up so it wouldn't grab the tire at some point with no fender,  SWEET tank on that ride of yours.  wanna sell it or trade for a stock tank painted in your choice of colors?  ;)

The hard line should be routed between the wheel and fork leg like this. Its hard to tell, but the forks may be longer than stock.

Looks like your forks are extended.

That hard line should route back to the wire "hook" on your fender just behind the forks.  There was also a rubber grommet on the fitting between "Hook" and flex line fitting end.

Looks like a hack, as the flex line should have been replaced with longer when the extended forks were put on.  Instead they just bent the hard line up.

Beware.  The constant flexing of the hard line will eventually work harden the metal and it will crack.  Probably just when you need maximum braking effort.
Were I a safety inspector, I'd flag that as a must fix.

Thanks for advice and information. I'll replace that hard line for sure.

King Custom,

Thanks for the compliments on the tank. I have many hours into that thing, and many more to go. Im going to use it for my cafe bike Im building over the winter.
