Adjusting carbs questions
« on: October 25, 2008, 07:38:31 PM »
I'm in the process of adjusting my carbs and I'm unsure how to adjust these? The air intakes? Mine seem to have different openings . 1976 cb400/4

thanks!

If you are talking about the choke plates, the ones seen in the carb bodies in the pics....

There are screws between each of the carbs on the linkages which adjust the plates individually. They should all be positioned about the same.

There is also an adjustment on the #1 carb which adjusts the whole works.

Matt is right, that's the choke butterflies. They should all flip open and close the same amount.

There's not much adjustment to them. Move the choke lever to close, it should shut all the little doors or whatever you want to call them. Move the choke lever to open and they should all be open all the way. That's about all there is. Someone else will chime in if Im wrong or not explaining everything.

The problem with mine is that when i close them the gap varies on each intake, does this make sense? It would seem that they should all be the same but i'm unsure of what the correct gap is?

thanks again

If it's minimal, I dont think it'll hurt much. The choke is only used when warming the bike up. The more important part is having the butterflies all open the same amount.

Linkage rods are adjustable and each one should open and close the same amount.
