Transporting a few bikes in the back of a box truck..
« on: October 27, 2008, 05:29:06 AM »
Moving, have a 16 foot Penske rig, and need to see about the best way to tie down two motorcycles. If I remember correctly, most moving trucks only have tie down points on the walls. I'm not sure if that will be enough, or is it? Suggestions? I don't have the truck in front of me yet...but am just brainstorming for now..

When I moved a couple bikes like that, I "found" wood pallets and put wheel chocks on the front, then drilled and installed big eye-hooks (drilled, with nuts and big washers - NOT the screw in kind) at the side.  Front wheel goes in the chock and the tie-downs go in the hooks.
There was a little shifting because the pallets themselves slide during some S-curve action, but otherwise everything was Jake.  (The American version of my Uncle Bob)
Dude- your 8 layers are showing!

Ernie,

That's positively brilliant. I think that will work perfect. As far as the wheel chock goes, was yours simply two piece of wood spaced apart? Or was it any more elaborate than that?

Here is a fairly entertaining discussion about moving with a bike, courtesy of Skonnie Boy and others:
