Topic: 550 top end kit

Is there anyplace i can order all the parts to redo the top end of my 1976 550F ? Since i am going to have it apart i think i might just as well re-bore and drop in a 650 cam. Since this is my first project I'm not sure where or what i need to order.

There are gasket sets available on ebay for more or less decent money. I guess there might be a dealer out there that still has oem sets. There are reviews (mostly not great) on this site of some aftermarket sets that are readily available for little dough.

I got a top end gasket set from http://www.westernhillshondayamaha.com/ a few years ago.  I haven't installed it yet, so I don't know what it's missing.  Oil gallery pucks maybe.

Sounds like you are looking for more then gaskets though, like pistons, rings, cam, valve seals...

I have been reading FAQ's and doing searches for weeks on here. My wife already hates you guys 

Any how, I just bought a 605 big bore kit for a CB500 of of eBay. I hope the post i read are correct that this kit will work on a 550. Do i need to use the sleeves or just bore the cylinders ? Will i need to change the cam or just do the port and polish thing when i go to the machine shop ?

605cc kits have 61mm pistons.

60mm pistons would yield a displacement of 572cc.

Formula = bore x bore x stroke x 0.0007854 = Cyl cc's

Example = 60mm x 60mm x 50.6mm x 0.0007854 = 143.068cc/ cylinder
143.068cc x 4 = 572.27cc

You might want to contact the seller for the reat of your displacement.

No there is no difference in stroke between the 500 & 550. Only the bore changed from 56mm to 58.5mm.

You're correct, the 605cc kit is actually a 592cc displacement kit. I don't know why it is sold as a 605cc kit.
Somebody here could probably comment on that.
