Guage Restoration - CB750 K2
« on: October 28, 2008, 10:24:08 AM »
I purchased the clocks'n'dials vinyl appliques for restoring the faces, have the speedo split, and have a few questions.

Does the lens and blue sleeve pop out easily, I'd like to paint the housing without the lense in, but it looks difficult to remove.

Looks like the applique has to be cut out for the odometer and trip meter. I assume thats best done once its applied...

Also, were the housings gloss black or satin?

Cheers

The inner and outer housing are sandwiched together on an O-ring..

Should come out fairly easy but be gentle.

I cut the odometer/tripometer after application.

I've never had a pristine gauge so I can't tell you what the Satin/gloss level should be....what I will say is I match the headlight bucket and frame in the level.....looks better to me.

I'll give it a try....gently....

Altho this bike when done will be in the garage when not ridden, did you have any issues with fading on these appliques?

I agree with matching the finishes, I think I will go gloss as my headlite bucket looks quite glossy still...

I think the fading issue will depend on your particular applique....I made my own and they still look like the day I put them on...

Where did you get yours from? Perhaps some other users have them and can provide history....

Original gauges are painted the same colour as the headlight bucket and frame - gloss black.  Over time they get a little semi-gloss patina.

kghost, I got them from Clocks'n'dials in the UK.  (as noted above in my earlier post ;)...Guy was on ebay but had a website as well. They look good, but were pricey.
