Hello from Wisconsin
« on: October 27, 2008, 04:53:55 AM »
Just purchased my "78 CB750F from a dear family friend whose husband passed away 2 years ago. It is still in her garage and I need to trailer it home.  It has a Vetter fairing installed so I am going to take that off first thing.  It seems to be missing the headlight mounts so that is probably my first parts search.  I have been reading the Hondaman section and I have already learned a lot. I have been riding since 1971 and my first bike was a CL125. Most of my riding recently has been short Saturday and Sunday jaunts with a once a year weekend camping tour in Wisconsin.

I agree with hoodel...welcome from Oshkosh.  I had a 1977 CB750K with the Vetter.  Now if the person you got the bike from still has the box from the dealer, those parts may be in there.  When I had my Vetter installed on the 77 the dealer gave me all those extra parts back in a box.  Otherwise, you should be able to find them on eBay or this site.  You will probably be missing the headlight bucket, maybe some headlight mounts and fork ears.  I was also missing the Honda emblem under the headlight between the forks, but I think the dealer kept it.  I ended up getting one at a yard putting that back on.  Does the bike run?

Thanks for the welcome.
They didn't throw anything away so I will search through the packed garage for the headlight parts. Thanks for the tip Johnie.   I don't know if the bike runs now.  I do know that he rode it up until he passed away.  When I helped her move into her new place, I removed the battery so that it would not freeze up and leak all over the frame thinking that one of her SIL's would be interested in riding it but after this amount of time I could tell that they weren't interested in motorcycles etc..so I asked her about it on Saturday.  I was looking for a winter project.  I will take and post pictures as I get it hauled home.  I may just push it, it's not more than a half a mile and at 44 degrees it's pretty hard to work up a sweat.  She has an old MG in the garage too that I need to keep "loose" until her daughter can start driving it.   I plan on cranking the engine over a few times and removing the battery from that too. If I can get that started, I may run it around just a bit and then get it back into the garage... perhaps get it up off the tires until they decide what to do with it.

Welcome from beautiful Luck, the town in the middle of nowhere! ;D
There are old bikers and there are bold bikers but there are very few old, bold bikers.

Not doing what you can to make your bike ride-able during the best riding months of the year kind of defeats the purpose of owning it in the first place.

Here is a picture of the bike, I hope to have it home next week. Still looking for the headlight shell and supports in the garage.  Rumor has it there is a 1976 MG Midget buried under the boxes.

Mike...that bike looks pretty nice from the pic.  If you take off the fairing and mount, you probably could get some $$$ on eBay for it.  I have seen some weird prices paid for the original Vetter stuff.  But she looks like a nice one.  Hope it runs as nice as it looks and you will have a great time with her.
