Shortround's New Project
« on: October 28, 2008, 04:14:54 PM »
here it is. it needs a little work, but it will great for one unexpecting neighbor. we call her fi, named after the chick in Burn Notice. Small, sassy, and could kick your ass if she wanted to.

Humanity at its best.  What you are doing for your neighbor is fantastic.  I have some old cl350 pipes and mufflers I was going to sell on eBay if you want them for this project.  They aren't perfect underneath the wrap but they could be sanded and cleaned up or just re-wrapped.

Thanks dollarbill. the pipes are actually in good shape and are still usable, but i do appriciate the offer. i'm painting the motor today and hope to have it all back together next weekend. 10diamond is on frame duty. he likes using the grinder way to much. the goal is to be done by Christmas. its gonna be close. whats holding me up is the spokes. thy're so expensive. i can get them off ebay but they're $85 shipped. guess thats not to bad for fronts and rears, but my rear spokes for my CB750 were only $23 shipped. oh well i'm just gonna have to suck it up and order them. my wife picked out the frame color, no i'm not telling, you'll have wait and see. if anyone has a spare set of coils lying around they want to donate drop me a pm. they don't need to be pretty. the wires can be junked i'm going to replace them anyway. i also need a rear sproket. doesn't have to be new, the one that i have is definatly done. it looks more like a saw blade than a sproket. anyway back to cleaning this motor

i'm donating it to my neighbor/friend. he's my neighbor but over the last two years we've grown to be good friends. i love building motorcycles. actually i prefer bringing them back from the dead. i've never built a cafe out of a running bike. Hell, trixie arrived in boxes (see the post i'm finished). i could build them to sell but them i'd be one of those chopper building pussies. i only build them for friends. no one else can truely appriciate them if they don't see the process. anybody can write a #$%*ing check. real people should have real motorcycles. not the wannabe #$%*nuts thet ride their harleys from home to hooters then home again. so to all my cafe breathern show those cookie-cutter harley riders what a real motorcycle lookes like.

J/K! I've never been a big fan of the ol' HD line up.  I also read through your thread on Trixie and it's amazing.  That's why I'm excited to see what this bike will be like.

some progress pics of the motor and frame. i'm not using the seat that's in the pic, i made it for a 360t, i'm just using it for mock up. mark/10diamond welded and ground down all the tabs while i was on motor duty.

the rear hoop is a piece of round tube welded/filled and ground smooth. that was all 10diamond. the motor is the same one as before. there's nothing a little simple green and a scotch bright pad can't handle.....except this motor so i threw a half gallon of simple green at it. painted the cases and jugs, then polished up the shinny bits on the buffer. my craftsman buffer has definatly earned its keep. i threw in some new rings and honed the cylinders.

Wow that's a bright blue!  I'm glad to see a color other then black for the frame!  I think Black accents would rock next to that blue though.  What's the plan for the tins and motor?

Nice call on that blue!

I hope you take this in the spirit in which it's meant; it looks like French blue (bleu?) on my monitor... I like French blue. Also looks like a blue available on the BMW M3 I think called Sebring Blue. Anyway, good call.

its not quite as blue in person, the flash really brightens it up. now that i think of it it may be that blue, i haven't put it in the sun yet. i really like it. i'm mixed on the hoops. the last 2 cafe's i built had black ones. i just wanted to try something different. the gas tank is almost finished. i just have to trim it and seal the inside. but i'll be at daytona with trixie this weekend so it will have to wait.
cheers

Actually it's called Laguna Seca Blue, but in the M3 world most call it Smurf Blue.

Thanks, no wonder my web search ended in frustration. When my buddy had his M3 I went with him once to get it serviced; there was an Laguna Seca Blue M3 in the show room. I loved it and my buddy hated it. But then I liked the vomit yellow too.

Back on topic; I think (again seeing my monitor) blue rims will work... but as always it comes to personal taste. Did I miss tins color choice?

the tank and tail are gonna be silver. i was thinking of putting a blue strip down it, but i'm thinking black now. i just found out that my front spoke ste is to short. i'm really bummed out about it. i recieved 2 sets of rears. there beutiful just to dam short, so i got nothing accomplished last night. anyone need a set of rear spokes for a cb/cl 350? oh well plenty more to do while i try to track some down. i'm thinking of lacing an 18 inch rear to the front hub. i think it would look bad ass with fat tires front and rear.

Ok, that's just plain cool!  Did you do the FG your self? or did you purchase the tank/seat from some where?  If you did the FG yourself, what kind did you use since you'll be putting Gas in it.  Will you line the Tank?

It's looking great!

that is going to be one Kick ass ride!  I want to be your neighbor!  Any concern on the rear tire rubbing the seat bar?  In the pick, clearance looks minimal.

Any chance you want to post a video of that beast running!?!

fiberglass is easy acept for the sanding, and sanding, and sanding......did i mention the sanding. still working out a few kinks before turn it over. fixed a minor oil leak from the generator cover. i knew i didn't use enough sealer where the wiring harness came out. forgot to plug up the neutral light so i hade to take one cover off anyway. its kickstart only right now. i need a starter flywheel and a spedo cable. trying to find one cheap is a chore. total cost. $600 including the $80 purchase price of the bike. most expensive item was the $100 in tires. one word in tires, bikebandit.com. ordered tuesday at 2pm. they were at the house on thursday. also gonna throw a shout out to 10diamond, he actually did more hard work than i did, polishing welding, and he made the rear sets. he also did the sanding on the tail. i really can't tell you how much i hate sanding. competition honda as always hooked me up with the motor parts at a discount. if you live in the orlando are hit them up for oem parts, ask for Ben.

so whats next? as many know i sold trixie on ebay. i'm working on a 1972 cb750. i'm thinking 836, and soon another cb350. not exactly sure where i'm going with them, but one thing is certain, they won't have a black frame. they tend to talk to me and tell me what they want. well that's all for now.

cheers ;D
