Turn signals work fine... but one stays on all the time
« on: October 28, 2008, 01:23:35 PM »
Hi all,

I did a search and couldn't answer my question. I have a 77 cb750k. Turn signals have worked fine for the several months I've had it. Only thing odd is that the flashing/buzzing rate is fast and sometimes it speeds up.

The other night was riding and noticed my right front turn signal light was illuminated. Got off, checked the turn signals, and they all worked properly. Left turn signal turned off the right light and flashed the left ones, and right signal made both front and rear right lights flash.

Anyone know what this is from and how I can get the right front light to turn off when I'm just riding around?

Thanks

Both front lights should be on while running. It's part of the bikes safety features and you should be looking at why the left one is not on while running.

Do you have a multimeter?

oh ok, thats good to know. Yeah I have a multimeter. What could be potential causes for the left one not being on during normal running?

one or both of the filaments gone?  When one bulb is out, the other, on the same side, should increase in speed.

WOnder if you got some melted wires somewhere crossing over.

I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.

So should I just try replacing the bulbs?

I would inspect the bulbs, the front ones are dual filament as far as I know. You may have one of the filaments burned out. Beyond that, grab your multimeter and the wiring diagram and follow the wires, inspect connections and check resistances at clips and at each end of the wire to the running light if the bulb looks alright. Or, replace the bulb, it's not like they're $40 a pop :D

does anyone know what bulbs to use for a 77 cb750? Are they standard bulbs sold at auto parts stores?
