If the needle is bouncing about, it is most likely due to the drive cable being dirty so that the inner twists and un-twists as you ride. Remove it and withdraw the inner. Make sure that both are quite clean and lubricate with light oil, not grease. Re-assemble and replace. Your speedo should be OK now.
