What dust caps can I use on K5 forks
« on: November 01, 2008, 07:19:20 PM »
I was thinking to go with dust caps instead of new gators for the K5.  Not sure If I will like the look of the gators with a crushed looked.

I am going to do 2 1/2 pvc in the forks to lower it and use the inch that I have to use with sliding the tubes up the trees to go as far as 3 1/2 inches if needed.

So, my question is, what fork dust boots can use with the K5 forks?  I would like them to fill fork gap as to not have any like MCRider1 showed on his.  TAS also asked me what the measurement around the fork leg, where the boot would set to help me find something.  What have y'all got for me?
I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.

I'm thinking that the later model all get by with their respective "F" model dust covers.

My problem lies in my use of K0 to K2 legs which for the CB750 had different dimensions at the top of the leg than the K3 and later had. For CB750K3 and later the respective "F" model dust covers fit fine and fill the gap fully. I don't think the 500/550 had that problem.

But I don't have that as first hand knowledge, just a good guess.

Thanks for the reply!  I have read through your thread a couple times.  Did you come up with a solution with the gap?  O-ring or maybe the CB500T caps?

I bought some plumbing O rings from ACE Hardware. They will fill in the gap with black rubber and if one didn't already know, one wouldn't see it.

I could wrap the groove with black tape, that would hide it.

I also ordered the Harley dust covers rcommended by 754, don't have them yet.

So I've got options.

I don't want to get too anal about this, but what the heck.
