Yamiya pipes
« on: October 31, 2008, 09:15:18 AM »
I am looking at purchasing some yamiya exhaust pipes for my 550K and i was wondering if they will fit my bike?  Looks like they only make them for the 750 and 400's.  What is the scoop.

OK, so I exaggerate a wee bit, but $792 is still large dollars (in my checkbook)...I'm sure they're purty as as all git-out, tho...

Pablo I havent installed them yet but are exactly the same as the ones currently on the bike without patches. I have to replace my swingarm bushings to so im waiting until it gets a little cooler here in SC to install them. My bike is in very good condition and I feel the bike is worth original parts.

marving makes a set.

Any clue who deals marving in the US and what price-point is like? I like the stuff they're showing on the site.

My bike is in very good condition and I feel the bike is worth original parts.

I'm sure it is. I would not have tried to imply it wasn't. I am just a cheap-a$$ and used to getting relatively cheap parts for these bikes, so stock pipes are one of the few eye-openers. I gotta wonder too what kind of $800 exhaust system a guy could buy if he were not as into the stock aspect of his ride.

About 1/2 of a titanium pipe set.. maybe less..

I saw Ti tailpieces for Ducatis, not the the headers pipes, so just the last third.. offered..

 for a mere 1499.. :o

You can always find cheap bikes, bur new parts are going to cost...

So:

$250 for easy-MAC

$1400 Ti for Ducati

$800 lands you somewhere in between for oem

But surely there are options between $250-$800 that are desirable, available, functional, aesthetically sound, etc...or am I way off?

I am not seeing how anyone can build a pipeset for less than 250 and make a profit..

Stock Honda exhaust for CB500 and CB750 is about at least 2x the labour (if not more) than to build a 4-1

Agreed. I was referring to available choices in the $250-$800 range. There is of course, ebay, and on that note, does anybody have any experience with S&S?

i dont know about the quality/performance of their motorcycle exhausts BUT S+S exhausts on air cooled vw's is top notch stuff. i had an s+s dual aluminum silencer system on a 210hp dual carbed 2500cc bug motor.

if your looking for a cheap full system starting from scratch go with the MAC system.

if your looking for a full system and have the money and starting from scratch go with the Marving system.

also if you have the original pipes, you can grind off the welds holding on the mufflers to the headers and buy replacement mufflers from Emgo. $46.99 a piece and look just like the originals. and they mount to the rear brackets as the originals. as a matter of fact they have a couple from Emgo you could do this with.
http://www.denniskirk.com/jsp/product_catalog/Product.jsp?skuId=&store=Main&catId=403&productId=p431285&leafCatId=40302&mmyId=

now, another original header option is go back to Dennis Kirk, look up Sito again and
select the 4 into 2:
http://www.denniskirk.com/jsp/product_catalog/Product.jsp?skuId=4401018&store=Main&catId=403&productId=p4401018&leafCatId=40302&mmyId=

there used to be this exhaust but you'll be lucky to still find it.
its the one i use, it works and sounds awesome.

After checking around to try to find out more about S&S, I emailed the company and they replied with this...

"We sold the S&S motorcycle line to Jardine Headers about 1980 & he sold out to Inter Am. The only bike headers we make now are Private Label for other companies. We also make Mini-Sprint headers for Circle Track Cars with bike engines."

So, there you have it...

I have heard of Jardine but not Inter Am. I don't know that Jardine's reputation for quality was/is stellar, but maybe somebody else could comment on that...

That's for the 750, but they do offer a 500 pipe (not 550, though). The 500 pipe is the lower right. And they have another one that looks a lot like the Kerker Exhaust for the 500.

They show 500/4 pipes...

what exhaust set up nets the most power? 4-4/4-2/4-1? I had a feeling the 4-1 is best for making power is that correct?

i've wondered that myself. i'm sure it's the lightest, therefor it would "feel" more powerful when you twist the grip few to the power to weight ratio

yes its lighter that allways helps. i know the 2-1 on big twins is the best way to make power. the guy who diald in my harley kept pushing me to get one but i find them ugly on harleys so i went with a differnt set up. im curious if its the same with a 4-1
