ok just drove the car
« on: November 01, 2008, 04:43:25 PM »
first time behind the wheel of the car in 5 weeks and 6 days.
I have driven the truck with a stick for the gas and brake and working
the clutch with the good leg, hey, it takes coordination.  ;D ;D

Anyway. Stuck my bad leg on the gas, I can move my toes up and down
to work the gas. Left foot for the brake and clutch. I'm being forced to
learn left foot braking which is something I've always wanted to master but
never took the time. Now, I have the time and incentive.  ;D ;D

Just remember not to jam your bad leg on the brake pedal in the event of an emergency RM :o

Cris, that thought has crossed my mind.  I'm trying to visualize not doing that.  ;D

yep, same here tramp, I'd even set the peddles closer together for right foot heel and toe
on the brake and gas, but most F1 drivers have gone to left foot braking having come from cart racing.
Left foot lets you keep you foot on the throttle but the shifts have to be quicker on the down shift
to set the turns up. However, on the street there are so many other variables to watch out for. ;)
You know, women on cell phones, folks turning in front, crossing the center line, etc.... :(

--A spin in the Fiat too complicated at this point ?
Use the hand throttle, then the good foot for clutch and brake.

RM, I gotta ask is this the safest thing to be doing? I really am not trying to push your buttons or anything and empathize with your plight and how bad it must be not to be able to drive etc. So please don't take this as a knock or whatever but we are on a motorcycle forum here and we routinely complain about the cagers out there and people taking chances with our lives since they are on the phone or yelling over their shoulder at the kids on the way to soccer practice or whatever...

Basically what I am saying is please be very careful out there.

Although it wasn't mentioned I just assumed that this was in an open road setting. If it was actually testing in a deserted parking lot or whatever then my apologies for jumping the gun.

Hey Gerhed, the hand throttle is missing from my fiat, mine was the first year of fuel injection.  :(
I do run my backhoe still with the hand throttle. ;D

My78k, if I must say so my self, I'm a hell of a driver. You'd prefer me to drive you than
99 percent of the licensed drivers in the uS and that with my one good leg.
I could opt to rev match and not use the clutch at all and then just keep the bad foot on the gas
and the good foot on the brake. Would that make you feel better.  ;D ;D ;D ;)

For reference watch on "Any Sunday" remember the flat tracker that ran the last race with
the broken leg?  ;)

Hey Mark, I'm taking it as easy as I can and it's starting to bug me a bit.   ;) ;)

Hope all is well down east there and the 600 has recovered from Sam.  ;D

Rocking--You remember, of course, that McQueen took a second at Sebring in '71 with a broken foot.

Oh yea Gerhed, I just watch "On Any Sunday" about a week ago and it was mentioned in it.
I think there was even footage of the broken foot incident.
