Tune Up Sequence
« on: November 01, 2008, 07:20:17 PM »
Just curious, because I know the Timing bone is connected to the Carburetor bone, and the Valve Clearance bone is connected to the cam chain bone....

When you tune up your bike, What sequence do you usually go in while doing routine maintenance such as valve adjust, cam chain tension adjust, and carb sync, timing adjustment?

Plugs, points, timing, valves, cam chain, air/fuel screws, syncing. I always use a dwell meter and strobe light and check that the maximum advance is OK, I do this once a year.

warm up do carb balance
drain oil and filter.

We doing as a business first 4 are all done at same time and take 2 revolutions of the crank

Great to know, I just recently adjusted my valve clearance, and then removed the cam chain tensioner.  Cam chain tensioner looked surprisingly good.  I am going to proceed and check the timing after a good warm up.  That might be kinda tough now, as it appears the wet season is taking hold up here in the great NorthWest.  Had a nice little scare when screwing the #1 exhaust tappet cover back onto the valve cover. Torqued it down a little too snug and snapped the cap right off the threads  :o  Initial reaction was to panic, but without the cap putting tention on the threads, they backed right out easily with my fingers.  Paulages helped me out finding a new cap.  Thanks again Paul.  It's nice to have friends on this forum who understand when Sh!t like that happens.
