Tip to re-use those float bowl gasket o-rings
« on: November 05, 2008, 09:19:55 AM »
So those o-rings swell up from the gas an you pull the bowl off and they are too big. I read hear you have to get new ones. Nonsense! If you wait a day or 2 they will shrink back up but who has time for that. I pre-heated my oven to 200 degrees F. I put them in an aluminum pie pan and place them in the oven for 10 minutes. Done! When they are real bad, I've done this then put them in the freezer for 5-10 minutes after the oven. Done! Re-used many times...

should you rub them with a little motor oil so they don't crack?

Which O rings are you referring to? I just put my bowl back on and don't recall any o-rings in there.. Not
a good sign!  :o

Thanks, Need to check the floats next weekend, this will save me a few dollars and time picking up new gaskets. be careful what you put in your oven, You shouldn't mix the food stuff with the bike stuff,  I have a rather large toaster oven I use for this kind of thing.

mine have been off for a couple months and they still dont fit. maybe ill try the oven thing though. i actually bought a set of the rubber o-rings, and they are just as much of a pain in the @$$ to fit in
