91 SR250 in Mexico City
« on: November 03, 2008, 08:41:45 AM »
Hi Everyone!!

I just moved to Mexico City from Chicago.  I discovered this wonderful forum when I bought a CB550 four a few years back.  You guys helped me bring her to her previous glory.  I bought it for about $300 bucks and hand to rent a truck to bring her home.  After two summers and about $800 she was quite near showroom, if I do say so myself.  The move to Mexico City meant I had to sell her   :( :( :( :(  Anyway, I sold her for $1800!

Here in Mexico bikes seem more expensive.  I haven't been able to find a Honda like mine.  I did find a 91 yamaha sr250.  I paid too much for it.  Anyway, to my current problem...

The carb is leaking gas.  Almost all the time.  It doesn't if I'm actually pulling the throttle.  It's almost as if there is too much gas filling the bowl and unless I'm actively drawing it in through the carb, it will overflow.  So if I'm idle at a stop light or traffic for too long, the carb will start leaking gas from the overflow outlet.   My guess is the either the carb float is sent incorrectly or the overlow tube in the carb bowl is gone or broken.  I haven't opened it up yet, but I wanted to have a plan of action before I took her apart.  I don't have a place to work on her here in city, so I'll be on the sidewalk and will need to be quick and compact.

Also, if anyone has a good shop manual they can send me, I'd really appreciate it, or maybe just the float height?   I've already done way too much to this bike for what i paid for it.  I want to get rid of her, but want to make it so that she's running ok and I can sell her relatively easily.   It will probably be a loss, but I'll take my lumps and get over it.

THANKS EVERYONE!!
