finally. i was starting to think you guys weren't gonna get it sorted out.

andy 750 asked me to send him some pics of my 72 750.  i'm the second owner and it's unrestored. i do have the original grab bar in my store room.  i'm having trouble with the files so let's see what we can do.  there are some gorgeous bikes on this thread!

I am going to wax pseudophilosophical here for a minute, my apologies...

What are we voting on when it comes time for voting?  Personal preference?  Cause with previous BOTM's there are usually a variety of bikes to choose from.  Do you like cafe's?  Vote for the cafe.  Like stockers?  Vote for that one.  And its easier to judge a group of cafe bikes because they're so different, and there's no limit to what they can look like.  Its up to the skills and imagination of the builder.  But with stockers, there's a baseline.   Get the thing to look as good as it did when it came from the factory.  Not that stockers are inferior in any way, shape, or form, but having all of the bikes be stockers is harder to judge because, ideally, the only differences between the bikes should be their models and their colors.   

I guess what I'm asking is what makes one of these bikes better than any of the others? 

Again, I love the stock bikes and don't want to make it sound like what it takes to bring them back to that stage is any less amazing or difficult than a cafe bike.  I have a ton of respect for the folks put the time and effort into these beauts.

I think the deciding factor should be how completely accurate these bikes are to a complete stock composition, and the overall quality of the restoration.  Did they paint the frame?  Pull dents? How's the paint job, is it completely accurate to that specific Honda paint color?  if it comes down to it, are they the original Bridgestone 404s (or your model's original, or something era-specific) or are they new, modern tires?

not to knock matt OR phils 350Fs posted to this thread in the beginning, but... if you were voting stock sohc4 of the month and matt's bike were just as stock as phil's... who's would you vote for?  would it be hard to pick?
the choice would not be difficult for me... sorry about that one again matt.      his is just shinier.

Colour.....style.....year.....and if its an original unrestored (as in the case of 750K2/Franks bike) example versus a restoration to its former glory....whatever captures yuor imagination when you look at an original example of a SOHC.

Hi everybody! I just received a message notification about this thread, so I logged in from my "spiritual vacation".

Yes, I have more pictures of the bike. The first one was taken the same day than the one that Heffay posted.
In the first picture the bike is bone stock. With 12.000 km, it was unrestored and the only thing I did was replace some rubber parts, rebuild carbs etc. Even the chain was the original. H$ headlamp, K5 speedometer cable clip, aftermarket bowl gaskets, black speedometer rubber grommet - I read somewhere that the white one was hard to find so I replaced it and stored just in case-

In the second picture the bike has been a little "updated" and the odo shows 18.000 km or so. Modern master cylinder -it doesn't make any difference in the way it works but I will either give a try with new calipers or get back to the original M/C when the time for the fluid change comes-. Modern grease zerks in the swingarm axle. O-ring chain. Baffles removed for louder sound. Modern blinker relay. Allen bolts in the exhaust collars and some others here and there.

The second picture was taken last sept. 24th, on a cold morning in a nearby mountain. It was a tuesday -or wednesday, can't remember now-. It was early, there was some kind of "haze" or "thermal inversion", but the sight was magnificent. It was my 37th birthday, I took the day off from work and spent the whole morning riding the CB. Eventually I found a few days later in the forum that sept. 24th was the date when Honda Motor was founded, so it made it even more meaningful.


Thanks for the nomination but I can't accept it, beauty contests are not my kinda thing. I feel flattered that you like my bike, so I hope you enjoy the pictures.

thats ok though... will make an easier win for the 3 contestants we have now.   

but, those allen bolts threw it out of the running anyway.     no, not really, i would say.  there are just some things one must do to ease life a bit.

hi raul - great bike!  i've always enjoyed your posts and your point of view.  but in this case, i'd have to make an exception and encourage you to accept this nomination.  these older bikes require a sort of stewardship...moreso than say a newer bike that doesn't require much more than oil, gas and an occasional ride.   they're made of plastic so they're inherently easier to take care of than our bikes.  we fight rust, we scrounge for parts, we're always after some little gremlin that pops up now and again.   though i'm relatively new here, my guess is that BOTM is more than a beauty contest..it's a way of honoring and recognizing the ones that take on this stewardship and go just a bit beyond the norm to keep these great machines on the road.  no one 'loses' a BOTM poll..we all win, no matter the catagory.  so please, allow those of us who appreciate your efforts to give you a vote..we're spread out all over the globe and most of us can't stop by and buy you a beer so it might as well be this!
