Bumping old topic as this is somewhat relevant to my original post....
The longer I am with my gf, the longer I think that she may share some of those same ideals that her family does about servicing your own stuff....
As you might have read in some of my other topics, I have rid myself of that Nissan Frontier that I mention in my original post in this topic because it became very bothersome and buggy and quite frankly, the Nissan dealership did not really approve of me doing my own work AND they could not find the problem itself....
Since then, I now have a 97 Ford Taurus and a 78 Ford F250, both of which the dealership has NEVER told me that I could not work on....
So, pretty much every weekend I have been tinkering around with the old F250 along with my cousin, Ford, who is an avid Ford dentside enthusiast, and an admitted redneck.
We have basically went through the bottom end of the old truck, replacing main and rod bearings, timing chain, transmission filter, rear main, oil pump, etc... the top end was already done when I bought the truck, and we did the bottom. Basically everything has been done but the rings...
So, we have some man hours and beer and parts tied up into the project that has been stretched over a few weekends. We've been covered in oil, frustrated, and sometimes curse. Meanwhile, better half sits inside and sucks up my AC.
When asked for a beer run, better half says NO. So, I jump my greasy, frustrated ass into the Taurus and have to go get beer. Same for food. No beer runs, no food runs, no cigarette runs.
I understand that she doesn't drink beer and smoke. Neither do I. But if I have somebody under my truck who is not asking for money, I try to do what I can.
Maybe her attitude is the same as her family's attitude. Maybe she really thinks I am nothing but white trash because I work on my own #$%*.

Unrelated, but relevant, and somewhat ironic.... other things that happened yesterday....
1. She actually wanted me to clean her Honda Rebel that she drug home that *I* got running. (She gave up on the 550 cafe racer and has since decided that her newer Honda Rebel is WAYYY better)
2. I put my code scanner on her Nissan Frontier because it has been running rough for a while. Found code P0328. She said the code was stored because she left her gas cap off.... then came back and reported that she was glad to hear that the sensor was $60..... then came back and said "Nissan wants $700 to replace the sensor."
-----> Surely you didn't think I was going to volunteer to replace the sensor when she never even offers to help when I am working on something...
