Any Portlanders with an extra oil pan?
« on: November 03, 2008, 12:05:40 AM »
So I cracked my oil pan during my last oil change and left a 10-40 trail from Nashville to Portland (OR.) I would like to get the bike up and running for a short trip to Seattle this weekend if anybody local has a good pan they are willing to part with for the right price.

Sorry if this is the wrong area to post this in; I'm happy to move it if I need to.

Have you checked Western Cycle Salvage?  They're usually pretty good to deal with.  They've got tons of parts for our bikes :)

Just out of curiosity, How did you manage to crack your oil pan during an oil change?

Bike model..?

Western Cycle Salvage will probably have it.

Also, you can try t contact Paulages from here on the forum. He has a ton of stuff also. Dunno if he has what you need though.

Ryan (R550 here on the boards) had his pan crack. The PO had tightened the oil drain plug so much, that a small crack had appeared there. When Ryan tried to put the drain plug back in, half the section with threads just fell off.

What sort of bike? I'm near Olympia, WA, but I could send you one, or maybe meet you half way... :)

Duh; sorry guys; it's a CB750 K1. I hadn't thought about Western Cycle. I'll give them a call first thing tomorrow if I haven't found another alternative. Thanks for the suggestions!

Dunstall_74: it happened to me like it happened to Ryan, only nothing fell off.  :-[

Mlinder: thanks for the advice, and it's great to see you back among the typing. I wished you well from the road many times on my last trip.  :)

Cafe750: THANK YOU, YOU SO TOTALLY ROCK! I've emailed you.  ;D

Damn! Guess I better be careful while tightening My oil drain plug.  Did not know that this was a weak spot, trouble area on our bikes.  Learning that brains before brawn is a good motto when wrenching, had my share of mishaps.

Deep thanks to Cafe750, who met me at a truck stop between Olympia and Portland to donate a non-cracked oil pan to my limping 750. He even came an extra few miles because I was late for the meeting (dangers of a family road trip.) I appreciate the generosity, sir.
