Will hotter coils cause a leaner engine? 75 CB360T
« on: January 14, 2014, 11:13:32 AM »
I am stumped!  ???

She has been running hot starting sometime during this work.
Bike was running decent before coil wire failure.
Have 2 sets of carbs and have cleaned, recleaned and swapped them out several times.
I think that I have good carbs.
Carb boots are new and soft. Have done the leak test with ether.
Airfilters are relatively new.
Exhaust gaskets are new and seal well.
Engine has 7000 and has not been opened up.
I have added Ricks motorsports higher amperage stator.
Running HM ignition package.
Had a cracked cable on one of the coils and replaced the coils with new ones.
Bought coils from Mikes-XS site. Recommended from the Honda-Twins site.
So some where in this work it started running lean.

Cranking the engine first with the old coils and then with the new coils using a grounded plug.
The new coil spark was much brighter, stronger and blue/white.
I've used up my knowledge on this and then thought maybe the coils are causing this.
Would the hotter spark from the new coils cause a lean condition?
Thanks for any and all suggestions
Steve

If the old setup was not burning the fuel and the new one is then it should appear leaner.

Thanks Jerry, don't remember what MPG or condition of the plugs were like back then.
Hate to start changing jet sizes.

Whoa, just read your last post. I would have loved to buy ya a beer.
At that time of day airports only 15 to 20 minutes away.
Let me know when you come back thru.

What plugs are you using? Have you tried a colder set?
