£50 for the "Silver Machine" (see sig for link)

Worth 10x that but the owner (OldBoy on here) wanted it to go to a good home.

Have to add..in submitting my vote here: that I consider "what I paid" for my bike as a composite figure..i.e. what I originally paid..plus the hard cash I've put into it since then.  I don't consider my time..or the freebies I received in trades and parts..as part of that.

I originally paid around $1,300.00 for the basic bike ('77-550K)..but immediately put another $1,000.00 into it before riding.  The other $700.00+ has been for maintenance and small add on's.

I figure with new bikes in it's displacement class going for over $6,000.00 new nowadays..and the fact that my old '77 is pretty much in mint condition..that $3,000.00+ is still a bargain.

FOr the SOHC hondas I've bought, origional price...

$100 - '79cb650
$60  - '79 cb650(yes, a second one)
$250 - '74 cb750
$100 - '80cb650c
$60 - '82cb650
$50 - '79 DOHC cb750
And those are only the SOHC hondas...

Most of my deals for dirt cheap or free have either been through craigslist, local newspaper on line ads, or friends.
Check the free sections, junk for sale, the trade areas, barter areas and even the garage sale listings.
I have missed about 20 flat out AWESOME deals.
But i have had my share of them IMO.

But a toady running total of the 1 SOHC I have running right now?
Thats a completely different question.
1500-2000?
And thats just the $$ out of pocket, not to mention the hours of labor on my part.
Or the one of custom parts I have made for this bike.

2007 - Paid $200 for a 76 CB750 with Vetter fairing, bates bags, a spare motor and swingarm.  I rode it home and only need to fix the turnsignal to get it inspected.  I have since spent $75 on carb boots, $125 on a rear tire, $50 on Hayashi Racing wheels which came with good Chen Sheng vintage style rubber.

2005 - Paid $400 for a 78 CB750F wich was sitting in a backyard in town.  It came with a Vetter fairing and the bates bags which I gave away and came back to me when I bought the 76K.  I rode this bike home as well.  I spent a total of $300 more on new tires, headlight, signal bulbs, and air filter.

Gosh...don't let our ladies see this thread.  I paid $450 for my KO in 2007 from the 2nd owner who lost interest in it in 1990.  But now add in the $1300 HM300's, $800 duckbill from Yamiya, $700 for rechrome, $??? tires, $150 Yamiya gauge faces, $800 candy ruby red paint, new O ring, sprockets, bearings, etc. and I know I am over $5,000.  I did not add up all the parts from my dealer, either.  But I am like the rest of you...not complaining and lovin' the ride!!!  ;D

I paid a $100 cash. I don't keep track of what I put in it. All told it may be $1,000 to 1,500.

I think that's one of the beauties of SOHC Hondas.  They made a ton of them, and many people don't appreciate them the same way we do.  Therefore the purchase price is relatively low for a bike that is incredibly capable.  You can put as much as you want into it over time to create your own vision of a classic bike..... wether it be stock resto-, caffinated wrist number, tourer, or stretched out - hardtail - gutbuster  ;D

in 2004, i bought my first bike for $400. 750 k3, if i had known then what i know now it would have been a lot tougher to spend the money. my bike was a disaster and i had no love for honda 750s yet. with the help of a riding buddy of my dads from back in the day, i probably have about $1000 more into it. give or take. a lot more time, but know i have an awesome bike and some good experince working on these old hondas.

and their so easy to modify, and beginner friendly(mechanically speaking) and they look good any way you wanna build them up. be it stock, cafe, bobber, or radical chopper. personally i think i'm gonna go somewhere between old school bobber and old school chopper, no radical rake or hard tail, just a solo seat, shorter shocks, forward controles, maybe mini apes and some nice mirrors and saddle bags. just something to have some fun with

I bought my 75 550F in 2007 for $350 CDN not running but complete with 3 sets of carbs and 2 sets of side covers. I set out looking for parts this past October and ended up buying a 1976 550F Certified with new tires , Dayna ignition , new fork seals , new battery & carbs rebuilt for $900.00 CDN. I just bought a big bore kit for $400.00 CDN and am about to start my adventure into my first rebuild.
