I really want this, and I think i should buy it
« on: July 27, 2010, 02:31:53 PM »
Only problem is I am terrified that I might not be able to get it working, but the price is great I think. I know this is probably a bad idea to post this here, seeing as most of you will prob convince me to buy it....

You posted an hour ago, I assume you are on your way to Schaumburg by now  ;D
Perhaps stopping off at the "Midevil Times" for dinner  ;)

Forget 'Medieval Times', and instead head over to 'Rosebud' by the mall for some of the best Italian fare in the city & suburbs. Hey, it was 'Old Blue Eyes' favorite joint whenever he was in town! Now get out there and rescue that bike! ;D ;D

BTW nikki, how did you know 'Medieval Times' was near Schaumburg? Been there perhaps?

haha I would love to have this as a project bike, I want to see it and check out how it looks. I dont really have the tools to pull the motor is my problem, but there is always the off chance of NOT needing to pull the motor. I hear teh 350s are easier to work on then the 750s so I am all kinds of confused.

OK, OK...here I go again... ;) How hard is it to get a title in IL? If you plan to part it out then you will be fine. Restore it, title it and sell it??? I guess that will depend on your state and the title laws. Pretty sad to get it running good and then not be able to ride it around without worrying about getting pulled over. The ticket will cost more than the cost to buy it...good luck and I hope it works out for you.

It's a sweet looker, definitely could get your money back if you part it out, but they're fairly bullet proof, if the compresions Ok, shouldn't be too hard to make it a runner. I'd do it, if you get it running and you like it, shop around for a titled frame if you can't title this one.

Lived in Chi-town for a while, right at the end of Lake Shore Drive.  I really miss "Chicago Pizza and Oven Grinders" on Clark, blasting down Lake Shore and Lower Whacker on a motorcycle, Garret's popcorn, and mild summers.  I do not miss the traffic and snow up to my ass 6 months out of the year!  Ok, the last part was exaggerated...

What do you mean?  If you have wrenches and arms you have the tools needed to pull the motor.

just so you know, that's not completely a 71 CL350. there are many different years of stuff, aftermarket galore,  and various CB parts all over it. With no title and parts being a dime a dozen, I doubt if I would buy it myself unless I could use the parts on a current project because feebay is overflowing in parts. You could part it out but you won't get much for parts and you should actually positively be able to identify stuff first.  ;) :)

(we have a '69 and a '73 CL350. this is far from a CL at this point)

Thanks! This may have made my decision. I like the CL350 and I want to buy one, but I think I will wait for the right one. I might keep the 275 and dump it into my 750f I love that bike, I just need a place to work on it.

UPDATE:

My buddy said all he needs are the pipes and is offering me 100 bucks and replacement STOCK cl350 pipes if I buy it, meaning if I wanted to buy it it would cost me 175 out of pocket.

My life just got a lot harder.

As I understand it, from reading on here from previous threads and looking on the net, in IL the last owner known to the dmv must apply for a new title. they can't sell it without one, legally unless it won't be used on the road ever, like a parts bike. You can't ask for one since the state doesn't have you on file. if he was ever on the title, then it will work but he has to be the one to get it 1st then sell it to you. Then you can get a title. If he was never on the title, you have to have the last known title holder apply for a title.

well i had to pass on it. I pushed down on the kick with almost no resitance. I want a CL350 but I could not afford to make this one a runner and I would feel bad parting her out, knowing that some one could easily rescue her.

Oh and Mickey was 100 percent right, lot of different parts, I even think a different swing arm.
