help! removing stuck fork caps....
« on: November 08, 2008, 07:17:04 AM »
The title says it all really, I'm trying to get some fork caps off my 74 cb550, and they are on there pretty good.  I loosened the clamp that clamps right there, put some liquid wrench on them, then used an impact driver....

what else is there!  any ideas would be much appreciated.

why loosen the clamp bolts, the cap is inside the fork tube.. make sure you have a good fitting socket..

This is why I keep an extra triple tree around, I clamp the tube in the tree and lay it down sideways on a thick carpet, then use my foot to push the wrench to break it loose.  Reassemble with a little anti-sieze for next time.

..or just clamp a lower triple tree in the vise (softjaws on the stem).. a bit easier..
