Brake Light Out
« on: September 22, 2005, 11:23:48 PM »
hey all,

My brake light is not working from either front or rear useage. The standard rear light works as normal but no brake light. Thought it would be a five minute job. I've replaced the bulb, checked all the wires going under the rear mudguard and up into the light and pulled apart and cleaned the connections at the junction under the seat. have not found the problem so far. I am not really very adept at electrical work/diagnosis but the local bike shop can't fit this in for two weeks and so I'd like to tinker and find the problem if possible. anyone have any ideas that might help?

Thanks
Rich

With the ignition on check that you have 12 volts at the wire that is NOT green/yellow at both switches if not you have wiring/connector duff, If you have bridge the two wires at either switch if light comes on both switches duff if not wiring duff. commonly the wire corrodes where it solders on to the "button" in the bulb holder

I've had both brake switches fail on me within a week of each other. Usually if both switches don't work look for a brake in the line or at the light itself. Make sure you have the correct dual stage bulb in there and that one of the stages hasn't blown out. As a last resort check the connectors for the brake switch, a lot of time they come loose or corrode.
