2nd bike
« on: November 09, 2008, 01:11:03 PM »
I've run across a CB1000 '94 with 12,000 miles.  The dealer wants $2,999.  Anyone have experience with these bikes and is this a fair price for this bike in good shape?  I'm looking for a main rider whilst I work on the CB750.

Whadda ya' think?

Big bike. Pretty heavy. Huge torque, decent handling.
Precursor to Hornet, really.
Good bike, and that doesnt seem very expensive.
No.

Heavy?  I was thinking that it was fairly equal to the 750's... Think I read it was 518 lbs. dry.

Anythoughts on the reliability?

It's a Honda...

I had a CBR1000F for a couple of years.  Same basic engine, except that the F has a 6 speed box and maybe a slightly higher state of tune.  The engine was solid.  Had a bit of a buzz around 5000 rpm, but certainly not enough to be a problem.  I put 20K on it or so in a year or two and then sold it.

I haven't followed prices on those bikes for a long time, so I can't comment on the price, but it's a good solid bike and a great street platform.

I had one in MINT condition in 2004 and got smoked by some lady who ran a stopsign on my third ride on it.  It was a bit heavy but was phenomenal(sp?) all around.  I replaced the HUGE taillight with a LED unit from drag specialties and the bike came with a full two brothers exhaust and jet kit when I bought it.  Truly a sweet bike and I would definitely buy another.  I paid $2700 in '04 and it was MINT and meticulously maintained with records by the prior owner.  He even threw in a nice leather riding jacket too.  Search google for HONDA BIG ONE...18" tires suck to replace but 1100XX 17 inchers are a direct wheel swap.

So, for $2999 it better be damn near flawless.
