drip, drip, Chinese fuel torture
« on: November 08, 2008, 07:16:12 AM »
I have a problem and solution I wanted to add to the archives.  One of my bikes had a very difficult to cure fuel leak.  I tried everything to stop a slow drip on the #1 bowl and nothing worked.  Finally, I discovered a hairline crack in the side of the copper stand pipe tube.  This is the second time I have run across this and thought it worthy to add to the carburetor scrolls.  I replaced the bowl and all is well.  I am too tired to ramble on any further or use any really big words.  I hope this helps someone.

I've seen this too. I've seen a few fixes for the issue.
One was simply sliding heat shrink tube over the pipe and shrinking it down.
Another was to braze the slit closed with solder.

My buddy's bike, when he bought it, had screws on the rain tubes. The PO said he put them in there because they leaked if he didn't. Silly people...   ;D

i wouldn't think that heat shrink tube would be impervious to gas.  (there you go king, snuck a big word in for ya  ;) )

You mean "discovered" , "carburetor", aren't big words?

The stand pipe crack has been discussed and cured many times in the tech forum threads.  Some of us just solder the crack, sealing it to fluid leaks.
There that should make you happy.  No word over 9 letters, and most well under.

Word, dude.
