last ride of the season information
« on: November 10, 2008, 04:25:04 am »
After a less than stellar riding season here in MD, I took the bike to the gas station and filled her up, added Stabil to the tank and rode for about 5-10 miles to get the additive in the system.

She still smokes like crazy on start up from a dead stop at a light, etc., and continues to smoke until I get up to about 50--60 mph, in 4th or 5th, above 2500 rpms. This bike has a Rieke'd Stage 2 head, Serdi Valve job and a 650 overbore kit (2nd kit). Prior to installing this 2nd overbore kit I had the sleeves honed, switched to regular dino oil and followed break-in recommendations (vary the rpm range between 3k and 6k for the first 20-50 miles)

I've had it with the overbore pistons. I have a donor 550 engine I'm rebuilding this winter, but I'd like to use the Rieke'd head on it. Could it be the valve guides? If so, now that I have a good machine shop here in town, where can I get a new set of intake and exhaust guides for this shop to install?

Why don't you send the head to Mike to check out?
