That bike is GORGEOUS, (I've always had a soft spot for the Candy Blue Green), BUT...

It seems like a waste unless you want a static museum piece.  That bike's effectively a 1:1 scale model.  It'll never be ridden, or allowed to serve its purpose.  And it shouldn't be, since the value is tied directly to the odometer, and the more it rolls, the less it's worth.

As a piece of history and a time-capsule, it's amazing, but I'll take a Sandcast I can ride.

In any event, beautiful bike and it'll make a collector very happy.

Can't find it [thread], but I seem to recall 736cc mentioning that one was found crated, or in a wharehouse in the NYC area and he was part of the restoration team? Not sure this is the one though.

Hmmm...some odd things about that bike:
- The brake master cylinder is not original: the black ones came out on the 1970 K1. Same for the handlebar switches: they went black on the K1, too. They were silver anodize before that.
- The front disc shows more than a little wear. Long Honda test track?  ::) They were all run on Honda's track, then partially disassembled, and then put into the crates for shipping.
- The engine has been apart, or at least out, unless someone knows how to polish the cam cover while in the frame, and the alternator cover. And the transmission cover. And sprocket cover.

Hmm...
See SOHC4shop.com for info about the gadgets I make for these bikes.

Yeah, I saw the bike at Rice-O-Rama this past september. It is new looking, BUT I think it is a total restoration. The owner was saying that it was such an early example that there are no serial numbers on the frame. If I recall, the engine #s were in the 1000 to 2000 range. To me it looked like tons of new parts, Jap maybe. The odometer had no miles on it. Hell, you put 10 miles on it rolling in and out of storage over the years! Front rotor did not have a mark on it. Looked new. In fact the bike smelled new. Don't get me wrong, it was a fantastic looking example. Someone should be proud of the results. By the way, the owner thought it was worth about 40K!

Its a fresh Vic World restoration. Nice bike; it took 1st place at Rice-O-Rama. I don't think its been ridden, one of those a little over-the-top-all-it-takes-is-money to-win showbikes. Yes, I sound like sour grapes; but thats like winning an art show w/ somebody else's painting.

I don't know much about collecting, but in the car world, isn't that the norm? And if it's put together with a bunch of new parts (like an earlier poster suggested) at what point would it become a "clone"? Like I said, I'm ignorant so I'm just talkin' out loud...

Jay can afford to do that.....all he has to do is buy something, and it doubles in value.

I can see some confusion here. I would call this a never used sandcast if it left the Honda factory and was never used.  If it was build from NOS spare parts, I would call it a replica, since it never left the Honda factory as a complete motorcycle.  If it started out as a low mileage sandcast, then I call it a restoration. It can only be original once. I would like to see more information and details about this bike.  Looks good whatever it is.

Hondaman,
Just the throw some more fuel on the fire, the picture below is of a CB750 I bought new in July of 1969, note the smooth oil filter housing. Also, the master cylinder and controls (at least the left) are black. It may just depend on which box of parts arrived that day at the factory. It's quite confusing trying to do a "correct" K0.
Cheers,
Cliff.

Holy Crap, is that an original Candy Gold?  I thought there were only two Candy Gold bikes in existence, (both Sandcasts), with the gold "Viking Horns" on the tank.  One was the British Show bike, the other was an early "tester" for the paint color.  The later Cand gold bikes were diecast with the black horns and badges.

Is that for real?  If so, it is VERY exciting.  Any more history on it?

ZOMG!!

Groovie,
If you're asking about the pic I just posted, it's actually Candy Ruby Red. It died in mid August of 1969 after I T-boned a red Cortina that blew through a Stop sign. I went up and over the car I think. It was one of the first ones in Vancouver and was a for real traffic stopper. Very few people had seen one and wanted to talk to me about it where ever I was. Many of the first ones were crashed. It really was a superbike. It took me almost 2 years to get another one, the '71 in my avatar.
Cheers,
Cliff.

Someone will correct me if I am wrong, but I believe there were no gold sandcast models. In the U.S., the gold color was introduced after the sandcast was done.

Someone will correct me if I am wrong, but I believe there were no gold sandcast models. In the U.S., the gold color was introduced after the sandcast was done.

To my knowledge there were TWO factory Gold Sandcasts, that's it.  One was the Brighton show bike and the other was a pre-production "tester" to test the paint color.  Both are the only Candy Gold bikes with the Gold trim and badges.  One is in a museum in the Northeast US, (I believe.  736cc would know more about that one...), and the Brighton bike is languishing in England somewhere, out of the daylight.

My sandcast is wearing proper K0 Candy Gold bodywork, but it's not original.  I actually like it since it's unique, (not many Gold Sandcasts out there), and the Candy Gold was the least-produced K0 color, both because of the later production introduction and lack of popularity.  It's also my favorite K0 color.

That sucks.  Still a pretty bike, especially since the washed out picture makes it look like a sexier Candy Gold!  ;D ;D ;D
